Tea from fan leaves?

That doesn’t sound appealing at all @Deadhead  especially with the gastro problems that followed. We’ll see, I have some bags of fan leaves and sugar leaves for my aunt and uncle to try, just harvested last Friday and Saturday. Thanks also for your input

Well, like the others told you, dry them Well, and suggest that they take no more than a cup until they can gage the effects. Tea, like edibles, may take 30+ minutes to launch, but it’ll last longer, too. I’ve also made edibles like cookies, incorporating infused oil in the recipe, with good results. Seemed to help my late mom’s arthritis pain.

@Deadhead thank you, yes I definitely will tell them to take it slow, especially when using the sugar leaves since those could be more potent than the fan leaves. I’ve read about how powerful certain edibles could be. Happy to hear your edible infusions helped out greatly also

You’re welcome. I’m new on this forum, but I’ve been indulging in Reefer Madness even before I majored in sex, drugs, and rock & roll. :scream:

PS - If you want to make the THC/CBD more readily available in your tea, I’d suggest decarboxylating your herb, too.

@Deadhead haha yeah I completely understand that, I’ve been smoking it for more than half my life also  sounds like you had a blast haha

Yes I have done decarbing before and am familiar with it, thank you for the heads up. My uncle is going to experiment with some decarbed and some not till he finds the balance that works for him

Thanks again for all the advice.

The gastro problems might have been from chemicals on the plants. I have IBS and eaten leaves and not had any upset intestines or quick visits to the loo. Unless you grow your own, you never know what is on them.

Any green leaves can be used including old fan leaves, sugar leaves, leaves that grow during the flower stretch or new leaves that grow near the end of flowering. It doesn’t really matter what leaves you use and most people use the green leaves they trim off plants when thinning out leaves to provide better air flow through the plant.

Most leaves don’t have as much THC in and are a good way for beginners to start out. They give a very mild buzz and help with pain relief and it shouldn’t be too much for new users to cope with.

Sugar leaves do have a much higher THC compared to other leaves so you would use fewer sugar leaves so the new users don’t freak out due to being really high.

You can cook leaves with fat, butter, oil, etc but it takes a long time (6+ hours). It also concentrates the THC or CBD and you need to be careful how much you use when cooking with the oils.

You can measure out an amount of leaves (maybe 1 cup of dry chopped leaves) and mix it into some bread, cake or biscuit mix. When the cake mix is cooked it converts the THC-a into THC and you don’t have to worry about making tea of cooking it in oil for hours. The cooked bread, cake or biscuits can be kept in the freezer and used whenever they want them.

Deadhead mentioned being careful when using edibles because it takes at least 30 minutes before you start to feel the effects (unlike smoking weed where you feel the buzz within seconds of inhaling the smoke). The 30 minute time before you feel any effects is usually if you eat the bread, cake or cookies on an empty stomach. If you have a meal first and then eat a couple of cookies, you might not feel anything for 60 minutes or more (depending on the size of the meal you had before ingesting the cookies).

Edibles (including tea) also stay in your system for hours (up to 12 hours or more depending on how much you eat). As a general rule a small amount of edibles taken on an empty stomach will start to create an effect after about 30 minutes and this will increase for about an hour after that. Then it should stabilize for about 8-12 hours before fading away.

Ideally people starting out on edibles should have a very small amount and wait an hour to see how they react to it. A lot of people trying edibles for the first time eat a lot because they don’t feel anything for the first 30 minutes and end up having a bad experience due to overdosing. If someone does have too much, the best solution is to have them lay down on their bed and listen to some calm relaxing music that they like. You can also have someone sit with them and talk to them until they fall asleep. Hopefully they go to sleep and wake up 8-10 hours later feeling refreshed.

On no account should you stir someone up or try to freak them out if they have overdosed because they will have a really bad experience and could freak out and injure themself or someone else in the house.

If people are using edibles that contain THC, they should not drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after using it. THC will remain in most people’s system for at least 24 hours (usually a couple of days) and if the police pull you over and do a roadside drug test, you can get done for having THC in your system even if you’re not high. Obviously that depends on what your state laws are in regard to having THC in your system while driving a vehicle. But for safety reasons it’s preferred that people who use THC don’t operate machinery for 24 hours after using it. CBD is different and is fine to use when operating machinery.

Actually, THC and CBD can be detected for a month or more, even in a typical urine test, because they bond to fat in the human body. Most other drugs are eliminated from the body via the liver and kidneys in three to seven days.

Thank you @randylilgnome for such a detailed and very informative reply! Even going the extra step about how to deal with overdosing. I gave the post harvest leaves (mix of sugar and fan leaves) to my uncle last week. He’s been experimenting with them and different dosages. He says my auntie is sleeping like a rock and it’s helping with her arthritis pain, so looks like mission accomplished  thank you so much for every little piece of advice everyone, everyone’s information is so appreciated!
