My tap water is arround 450 ppm and my ph 8.1 . I let the water set in a sink in the grow room several days before use. is it necessary to put in sun to get ride of clorine? I’m just switched to 12/12 light schedule and really haven’t had to fertilize yet. How will Ikeep my ppms in range when i add nures ? I assume i’ll have to dilute the fertilizer down when I mix. So farall I have added is Jacks B and E. @Hellraiser @BobbyDigital @Bulldognuts @Covertgrower @MidwestGuy @Myfriendis410 @MeEasy PS ppms out are arround 1000 to 1700 and ph i 6.3 - 6.5
The chlorine will gas off naturally. You can speed it up my letting sunlight hit it but then you’re at risk for growing algae. With your tap water being that high in the ppm range you’d be better off diluting with some RO water.
Similar to my tap water, which is why I use RO water instead of my tap water.
You’d have to use less nutes to stay in a decent ppm range. With Jacks, maybe half the usual dosage and see how the plants do.
I just moved into a house with very similar water issues. After playing around with some different ideas I ended up using 50/50 ro n tap water with a pinch of vitamin C to remove the chlorine/chloramine and at the same time the vitamin C reduces the ph to right around 7 depending on the size of the pinch. If your water company uses chloramine it doesn’t vapor off like chlorine but it really doesn’t matter unless you are growing in living soil or your plants show chlorine issues
Oops forgot… I can’t help on the nutrient mix ppm I’m in living soil and have never had this poor of water when I feed salts
I guess i will just go back to using distilled. @MeEasy @BobbyDigital @Hellraiser I don’t like the idea of reducing the nutes.
You can save on distilled by mixing half a gallon distilled with half a gallon tap. Should cut your ppms in half. I run my tap at 250ppm with full strength jacks.
thanks for the tip Bobby
What kind of vitimin C powder or tablet?
I bought this one it’s a big can (ol lady has a pond we treat too) you literally only need a pinch per gallon so it will be bad long before we use it all

I use citric acid to lower the pH. It is about $4 a container in the baking aisle and I use use just a pinch to a gallon. It will last forever.
I’m going to try that @JaneQP thanks , over paying premium for ph down
This is exactly what I started doing after going through 30 gallons of water a week I decided to use half tap water and half RO water.
I let my tap water sit over night to 24 hours with a n air stone in there and have had no issues.
My tap water is also at 420 ppm
Good luck
Make sure you calibrate your pinching fingers! I have small hands.
Lol yea I imagine I will have to do some trial and error first
From what I’ve read about vitamin C the ascorbic acid form actually lowers ph better than the other which is why I decided to use it instead. Both forms also lowered the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water so I wanted to use as little as possible. They also make inline filters infused with vitamin C but I didn’t find the filters until after I bought this stuff so I didn’t do any research on them and don’t know how well they work or the effects on the ph… good luck
