Sweet Island Barb - please critique a newbie

Hi friends! Newbie checking in - and to take it even further - first time EVER using this media period

(Sunshine Mix #4, on clearance at Canadian Tire for $2.65 a 7gal bag. What a STEAL!)

Amended with castings, 4-4-4 Gaia Green All Purpose dry amendments @ 2-3 TBSP per gallon, insect frass, microbes. And cooked in a tote over 40 days.

Here’s what my plants look like on a diet of 6.2 pH water with 15ppm of Ful-Power

Just wondering if you awesome people spot anything right away that jumps out at you

I’m fully aware it’s absolute garbage compared to you pros which I’m totally at ease with – I’m simply here to try and learn and suck up some knowledge

Huge thanks in advance for your time and expertise ILGM :heart::heart:

Nice grow. Looks like they like your mix, just by the tips of leaves they are at or very close to limit of feed. Rock on!

Never used sushi mix but I always felt my soil grows did the best applying ph in low 6’s too. For whatever reason it seems a lot of people nowadays prefer high 6’s. Way to keep them green!

USU’s Dr BB did a video on why 6.2 works better than 6.8.
One of the critical minerals does better at the lower number.
If I got the video correct.

Holy Geez I didn’t expect such positivity

I must say, this community is a really great place to be. Other forums I started on before here were a total disaster, complete with insults and telling others why they suck and so on.

I left all the rest except here and one other after tons of exploration

So just to reiterate

Thank you ILGM for simply being you

Posters here should feel very accomplished because I’m telling you straight up, you deserve it

I’ll be donating very soon

Your plants look great.

No changes, based upon plant color/health, shown at this time.
Keep up the same good work.
I would measure (for the record) your Run-off PH/PPM.
Become aware of the numbers or changes.
Keep up the good work
Yours look better than mine, maybe.

Do you clone?
Got you there.
Reveg?
So much to learn.
Do you have a harvest plan?
Microscope helps view trichomes.

You are too kind my friend, thank you so much for replying DEEPDIVERDAVE!

I am most definitely still a newbie so I appreciate any and all advice to improve !

I most definitely don’t look better than yours but I’m thrilled that we are somewhat on the same page at least, and growing in a similar style!!

What are you using ? Sunshine mix as well? Pro Mix? I’d love to hear more

A sincere thanks again for being such a nice person!!!

I do clone - I have a few hopefully that will survive placed outside as we speak - I’m worried the natural UV fried them though!

No reveg yet, never played with that!

No harvest plan and only going by date - the seed packet said 9 to 10 weeks flowering time and I’m around 8 so far… What do you think about that?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my thread!!

Should I only harvest when a microscope shows it’s time? I do have one somewhere, and I think it even connects to my phone so I can see it on the screen - but I never really followed through with it

I’ve been here off and on since 2014 and i can tell you this is definitely a unique little space we have here, I’m only a member of one other forum and its to do with cars.

There’s nothing like this place for positivity, constructive feedback and just all round educational, fun and welcoming.

Hmmm I wonder why that is? :herb: :fire:

Harvest when you want.

YouTube videos about trichomes and growing.
Predominantly, I use FFOF and perlite.

I get excited when I think I’m on the same page as everyone then I usually find out that I’m on the right page just in a different book

Your plants look great!

I joined now 18 months ago. didn’t want my 20yo college son getting some jacked-up shit off the street and then I have to attend a funeral. Everything I have learned is from this site and all the helpful people. It’s amazing! I moved after my second round to organics only and I may lack in weight I make up for less time needed and killer buds. Even though I still spend 20% of my day doing weed-related things. The search bar is a huge help—leaves, pH, water, dirt, lighting issues, etc. Everyone ROCKS THIS JOINT!

Me too, 40 years not practicing.
Amazingly, the world is not flat.
Forum reading and sharing contributes to all, learning faster or deeper.
I can learn from others as well as my experiments.

I welcome you to read my journey and see how others contributed to my getting better, faster. USU-76 Graduate, studied trees, not weed.
DDD found “Christmas trees” in the Gulf of Mexico (oil field structure).

@frozen Pictures? (short memory I might have).

Sorry for the huge delays in replying here, I actually didn’t even realize there was anybody who replied to my rant until now - I’m still learning the in’s and out’s of this forum - but a SINCERE if delayed thank you to ALL responders above!!

You guys are AMAZING!

I love this forum, and you guys are the reason why - so a sincere thanks again

Outside of this thread I’ve been posting on here looking for attention on a Red Congo x Pineapple Fritter plant I’ve got going that’s developed rather striking pink pistils

As it’s a first for me, I’ve been concerned it’s something… concernable!

But thankfully the lovely people here have put my mind at ease, and it may just be a rare byproduct of the genetics

If interested in checking it out, my thread is here
Is this normal ? Pink colored pistils - Grow Cycle / Flowering - I Love Growing Marijuana Forum (ilgmforum.com)

Huge thanks again and I’m going to re-read all responses in detail now

OH! And this Sweet Island Barb literally just got cut down tonight. Day 64, a day past their 9 week recommendation. I’ll report back in 14 days after a hang dry
