I’m a rookie. I was gifted some ILGM seeds. This is either Moby Dick or Wedding Cake. I got it started but don’t think it should be so short, judging from other photos I’ve seen. Began with de-chlorinated tap water at @ 7.2 ph(rookie move) and 150w led full spectrum 100% at about 12". As of 3 days ago I’ve used lemon juice to drop ph to @ 6 and light was raised to 24" and 50% today. It appears healthy (to me) but I’m not so sure because of how stubby it is. Any advice as to if I’m doing it right or wrong is appreciated. The soil is Happy Frog. No nutes as of yet. Thanks.
Welcome. Don’t get in the habit of comparing your girls to others. They all grow different from strain to strain and even plant to plant that are the same strain. Enviro, lights, soil etc all contribute to how these girls grow.
Your plant looks extremely healthy but you didn’t tell us how old she is so any advice offered is speculative. Here is a small plant at early veg and what she grew into…
This is at 4 weeks, maybe about the same age as your is??
and midway through veg
and this is almost finished, about 25 weeks total from sprout
I use the same soil along with Ocean Forest.
Is yours auto or photo? I only grow photos so I can veg for a long time and hopefully create monsters each time.
Curious as to why you planted her so far toward the side?
Wow!! Awesome yield! She’s been òut of ground about 2 weeks give or take a day. She’s an auto. As far as placement, lol, I had another bucket sharing same light space and didn’t want them to close together. Rookie thinking, I guess. Will it matter? Hope not! You think I’ll be okay with how I’m now doing the light? At 4, 41/2 weeks I’ll start the ILGM nutes. I would LOVE a yield like yours! Thanks for replying!
I bet she is a little stubby due to light intensity. Less light will give wider node spacing while more light will make the nodes tighter. You could probably adjust your light back just a little to get her to stretch some.
I wondered the same. Maybe she started out in the center but stretched and laid over a bit? I have on like that.
That third and last pic - that’s progress.
Thanks! I’ll dial it to 75% for a couple of weeks. What kind of distance would you suggest?
Nah, started it out there. Thinking about spacing with another so there wouldn’t be entanglement between 2. Rookie thinking, lol.
Distance just depends on the particular light I start with whatever the manufacturer recommends then adjust from there as I see fit. In general it’s around 18"-24" for veg and 12"-18" for flower, but yours may be a little different. Closer to the canopy will give you intensity at the cost even coverage. Too close and you get hot spots.
Roger that. Vivosun VS1500 is weapon of choice mostly because it will be easy to add more light as needed. And, of course, the price is right.
I would start at 24" and see how she responds over the next day or two.
Looks great for 2 weeks!
Done. Thank you!
Thanks! That’s encouraging!
@Bonjoyle is right, I forgot to mention that. She looks quite healthy. I like let them stretch a little early on to make them easier to train later. There is a certian amount of preference involved in light positioning and intensity too.
Thanks again. I love this forum. No one belittling or criticizing, just helpful suggestions. For me it’s a learning process and I am grateful for the education. I did keep the light too close and hope to continue to learn. Thanks to all.
Hey y’all,
Here she is at approx 4 weeks. Right now the light is 24" and 50%. A little LST. No runoff watering yet, but have increased amount. I’m thinking it’s time to start feeding with I❤️GM stage 2 (growtime). 75g/liter. Questions are: once I start using nutes, do I keep using water and feed once a week or from here out is all watering done with nutes included until flush time? Criticism is appreciated.
Thanks.Processing: 1000010917.jpg…
Wait for the 100% before hitting reply.
Feeding schedules are based on PPM’s. When and how much is solely based on how much she is eating.
It was taking a weird long time to upload so… But hey thanks, good info.
