Straw or leaves as a mulch?

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if its a good idea or not to cover my grow area in a layer of straw and leaves or would that be detrimental to my grow area? Would really like someone with experience to chime in. Thank you in advance. @Olaf.ILGM @kaptain3d or anyone. :victory_hand:

People who do cover crops and living soil would be more suited to provide you with a good answer…
Great people such as @Budbrother , @Caligurl or @GreenJewels :star_struck:

I reuse soil and have used cover crop seeds before. I add all my pruning to top of soil mostly to hold water and add biomass. Just remember to make sure whatever you use is sanitary and you arent adding bad life.

Vibrant life. Slow absorb for no burn. That is a solid way to go.

I use compost on all plants. I use straw on my living soil pots and veggie gardens. I’ve bought used blue mushroom straw logs from Build a Soil in the paat but the price has really increased through the years. You might be able to source used mushroom straw locally from a mushroom farmer cheaper.
My Earthbox’s of living soil have a cover to hold moisture in.
Outdoors in my flower gardens I do use compost and leaves . I’ve seen people use hemp mats that you can cut to fit your pot.
