Thanks Nug. I found the thread. Those buds look like candy dipped in sweet thick trichs and resin. Never seen any that coated before. I split mt stem on Wednesday. Just waiting for some amber to show, then will cut the lights for a couple days and go for the harvest. Will try to get some pics of my buds when the time is right.

And yea it looked like it was rolled in sugar

Here is my biggest bud 1 week after splitting the stem. Still no sign of amber in the trichs.

That looks delicious @DineyB yummy :yum:
Nice job and please post picks when you harvest and dry those buds
I’m getting ready to harvest myself and I’ll be trying the stem splitting thing as well mostly will split one of my girls Thursday or Friday :+1::v::cowboy_hat_face:CB

Well it’s been two weeks since I cut the stem. Still no signs of amber in the trichs. Can’t believe how long this is taking. I have definitely been harvesting too soon. Should have gotten the jewelers eye glass sooner. Good things come to those who wait,

so back to my waiting game. Here’s a pic of the same bud after two weeks since stem cut.

Splitting the stem won’t speed up the maturation process. It’s just to stress the plant enough to cause more resin production. Did you notice more trichomes forming a denser covering?

The bud looks great, by the way…

Oh, I know it’s not supposed to make them mature faster. I just thought that they were closer to being ready when I cut the stem. This is my first grow that I had a magnifier that would show me the trichomes, so I’m only now learning how long it takes before you see some amber in them. This is an auto that was supposed to take about 70 days to harvest and I’m now at 77 days. That’s why I’m a little surprised that it is not ready yet. I definitely noticed them getting a lot frostier after the cut. Thanks for your comment.

When I see harvest times I always count that as meaning estimated days from the onset of flowering. I know some claim seed to harvest, but all the input I’ve read from growers contradicts those claims.

My Blueberry autos just showed their first pistles today. Average expected time is 55 days. Just to test the average, I will take one 55 days from now and the other two weeks later to allow for a pre-flower stage before actual flowering.

My plan, of course, is dependent on how they look at those days. I’m thinking the average time is based on when the THC is at it’s peak. I like mine a little more mature than that.

Starting to ramble I guess. The rain is having a nice effect on my high as it hits my tin roof…:smiling_imp:

Ramble away. Rain on a tin roof is always mesmerizing especially when your buzzed. I too want mine a little bit into the amber stage so I will continue waiting until then or until my patience runs out.:smile_cat:

As long as they had milky tricombes your ok just have less couch lock I always give two weeks for preflower once I switch to 12/12 I haven’t grown autos yet and maybe that’s the difference in time ?
I also split my stems but waited till I was three days out from harvesting meaning I split them knowing I was taking them down in three days no matter the results :cowboy_hat_face::v: CB

Thanks for posting this one, I’ve heard of scrogging and was quite interested but stem splitting in conjunction with scrogging sounds like the way to go, I’m a first time grower myself and my durban poison is at 5 weeks this weekend, again really glad you did this post as after reading it I’m definitely going to give scrogging and stem splitting a go and you’ve convinced me to get a jewelers eye piece, as I was totally unaware of the benefits to this either, much appreciated

Glad to help you out darren. The more we share and talk about our grows the better we will all get at our favorite hobby. When I did the stem I thought I was closer to the harvesting stage than I was. Next time I will have a better idea when to split. The eye piece is very important because to me and my impatience the buds look ready before they actually are and the pink colored lights make them look even more toasty so getting a good look at them under regular light is also a good idea.

Well I ordered my eyepiece today and I should get it tomorrow, I’ve ordered the string for scrogging and the cable ties for the stem splitting, so I’ll have everything ready, gonna give the scrogging a go the weekend, thanks buddy

Gotta love that sound!
Choose tin roof on my place just for that reason!

Well, she is harvested and ready to smoke, very sweet tasty buds. I never did see any amber in the tricomes, but I could tell these were definitely ready. The stem slicing was a success. I am sure that it adds a lot of goodies to the buds and will continue to do this with every grow. Now we’ll see if I’m brave enough to supercrop my next plants. Just waiting for two babies to pop their heads up and I’m off and running. Here is a pic of the biggest bud awaiting my pleasure.

I have done it on banana kush. Slice the stalk close to the base and I use tooth picks to keep the slice from closing. I give 48 hrs of darkness then cut, exfoliate, hang and dry. Good luck with your grow.

It’s funny you posted this a day after my birthday. But this is my first plant and it’s about to get down to 30 degrees at night in a week and honestly my plant does need a little time at least but I think if I split the stem it will speed the process and finish it. Because initially I wanna wait till November to split and harvest. But you can see the trichomes clear as day on the plant on all the buds and leaves. But the only bud that looks like it’s ready is the cola and about 6-10 nugs directly underneath it. It all looks Christmasy in October. But yeah I need info ASAP. Should I split the stem now or should it wait til November and push through the cold weather? I would post pics but the site says new members can’t post attachments or links. But yes please lmk asap. Don’t leave out the details.
