AH! Cool …Ive always wanted to try and graft something… Ive been gardening for years but never got around to it… My Grandpa used to propagate his own Dahlias it was said that he once developed one that was black with blood red dots or splatter patterns on it…and he used to graft his own fruit trees…
Great job and the pics help a lot Thanks @noddykitty1
Hey gardener what can ya tell me about seed-saving. I been looking for somebody with all kinds of gardening experience to ask. If I save seed from this years fruit to grow next year, and save seeds from next year’s fruit and grow them the following year, and over again, will eventually seeds become less good needing new pollen or genes.
Or will my saving fruit-seeds from the ripest most thriving volunteers make a more hardy type. Or neither lol they’re ground cherries peruviana variety, nightshade family pollinated like tomatoes, if it matters. I think they’re not hybrids. I’m on the 4th generation now and so far so good.
I have never grown them, so I am not sure. I save pumpkin, sunflower, tomatoes, and annual flowers like marigold and snaapdragons. So I select for health plant and big flowers or fruit.
Here is a discussion you may find some incite. Or ask a question yourself at the end.
Just ordered some seeds. Mizjill just released some old TGA stuff again. I was all over that. Space queen, querkle, and the flav. And some new jillybean f2s. Added plushberry too.
RIP subcool.
Thats a sweet set up…
Progress. It’s officially a greenhouse now. I just have to sheath the sides in plywood this week. Roof was dry thru a pretty heavy rain storm, so I am happy. I have wanted one of these forever.
Got the sides mostly up. Ran out of black tyvek outer wrap. Was able to make a window in the wall with an extra panel from the luver intake spot.
Oh I just am lovin that greenhouse set up! Great job…I wish I had it!!..I think its just in time too!
I’m not sure of the forecast in the PNW but I think I heard it may be a really wet blustery year…
Great Job!!
Awesome.
Winter growing in Seattle, I wish to watch.
Started siding the thing w cedar planks. Capped the rail with metal flashing. And lots of roof tar.
The ground slopes down from my slab steeply, so it left a void since I leveled off the slab. Instead of wood or encapsulated/spray foam I decided to fill it in with acrylic. I went to tap plastic and found all this 1/4” acrylic pieces in their 1$ scrap bin. It’s my favorite part of the greenhouse. The original sunny toekick. Ha.
Inside morning sun:
My jillybean x blueberry f5 are on 11/13 out in the greenhouse 5 days now. Still doing the sex test.
Diverdaves surrogate tag team baby ILGM seedlings. Hindu Kush fem and auto afghani:
Now I am trying some new stuff from my vault. 2 trays of strawberry cough x Durban f3. And one tray of original @DEEPDIVERDAVE seeds he made fresh this year. All are regs and will need to be sexed. Hence the 3 trays of seedlings expecting half boys.
This is definitely the way to get thru the winter outdoor in the Seattle climate. Plan to flower and make seeds all winter long. I wish I had done this years ago…
