This is my first indoor auto run and I’m not sure if I should top. Im in week two exactly and have 3 almost 4 nodes. Any suggestions?
A choice. Wanna grow them straight first round and dial in or bite off a little more. Plenty help up here either way.
Well let’s say I’d like to go for it and top, what would you suggest?
I will defer that to a more knowledgeable auto person at when and where. All my auto anymore i go natural mixed in vegging photo.
I got ya! I want to start more and throw some photoperiods in but that means a light upgrade and I’m not willing to spend the money right now. I tell ya getting all the right nutrients and micronutrients is pricey
Can be. I went organic and never looking back. I can handle smaller stinky plants with no work.
Organic definitely is the way to go, this grow is more of an experiment. I mostly grow outdoors so this indoor stuff is super new to me
Your light is your anchor. Build AROUND it. Nothing else matters as much.
Any suggestions for a beginner? I’d like to stay around 100$
That is 1 question ill respectfully pass on. Search up here and you will get more info on lights than will ever need…![]()

I appreciate that will do!
BTW…welcome to indoor and if it has worked or bombed SOMEBODY up here documented it.
Haha yea I’ve seen some pretty awesome grows so far!
A good solid thread with living soil is @MeEasy . He also is a big auto guy sponsored by some light folks. Good info to be gleaned. Very well updated and a perpetual grow. @OGIncognito and @Hellraiser @nmgeo have solid threads also.
So right now I’m running Gaia green soil, Gaia green 444 and 284 as well as their worm castings. As far as everything else I’m using dolomite lime, neems, and pH up and down as necessary which I haven’t used yet. I’ll be top dressing with some more castings and some 444 and 284 this next Wednesday. I’ve had a lot of luck with Gaia green organics for outdoor use and their worm castings are just amazing! Honestly the best quality I’ve gotten so far
I would suggest fimming instead of topping fimming will give you more tops then topping gives . topping will only give u two new tops fimming can give u three or four new tops
From experience I would have to try to sway you away from topping. If it’s not done like right when vegging starts, it could make for that “later” topped section to produce 2 significantly smaller tops. That main cola will produce more imo. Supercropping the main cola & LST on the other branches to even the canopy out will produce better yields.
Appreciate that Brother Storm ![]()
Welcome to the community Growmie, I top all my autos and photos. Fimming is less evasive but easy to miss (F**k I missed) leaving you to LST a and bend a tall main. I typically hit node 6 by 8-10 days after the 14 day seedling period and top back to the 4th node leaving you plenty of recovery and veg time on autos ![]()
I count the nodes starting #1 as #2 in this pic
The problem with topping autos is they are autos. You have no control over when they decide to start the flowering stage. They may be delayed a bit as a result of being topped but there is no guarantee.
I would give LST serious consideration. The purpose of topping is to have multiple tops and disrupt the flow of auxins from the apical stem to the roots. The disruption of apical dominance can also be a achieved by using LST techniques. The benefit of LST is very little damage is inflicted on the plant and thus there is less delay in its growth. LST shifts apical dominance from the central stem to the side branches by lowering the main stem below the height of the side branches. Simple enough.
This benefit can be meaningful in the case of autos.
I like your go for it approach. It just may be better served by going for it using LST.
This is a Jack Herer auto on day 57. I was fortunate in that it had a long veg period. Very flat and around 9" tall
