Should I mulch marijuana outdoors?

I grow all my marijuana indoors. I prefer the controlled environment. But I decided to try one outdoors this summer. Strain is an old fav, Wedding Cheesecake auto.

My wife and I are avid gardeners, growing 40 tomatoes annually. All in containers. We heavily mulch with this high quality chopped wheat straw. Really helps retain moisture during the rest of the summer. See photo.

Question, should I also mulch the marijuana plant? I look at photos of outdoor plants all over the place, and never see mulch.

Thoughts?

Tomatoes and bud are very similar. If the tomato plants like the mulch, the cannabis will too.

Mulch plants outdoors to stop the soil drying out as quickly and the mulch can break down and provide some nutrients and help to build up the soil.

Ive used grass clippings since Moby Dick was a minnow :joy:.As stated it helps retain moisture. I’ve put straw compost but grass clippings add a lot of natural nitrogen IMO.I’ve never had any issues doing it .

@Mateo That’s really helpful to know, thanks for sharing your experience. I hadn’t thought about using grass clippings, but the added nitrogen angle makes sense. Do you let the clippings dry out first or put them on fresh? Just wondering if there’s any risk of them matting too much or getting funky.
