So its 8ft wide, thinking about 3ft to 3.5ft on each side will be filled up with plants. back room for Flowering will be around 18ft to 20ft, with the front Veg room right about the same but with a little work table and cloner up front. Is what I’ve got so far. Sense I’ll be using 2 rooms would using the scrog method be at all doable? Thanks to Davyg I’ll be sure to go down to 5gal pots.
So i’m at a cross roads now. With using the mini split and dehumidifier in each room, should I just leave it a sealed container and use supplemental CO2? or chop holes in roof and sides to use exhaust and intakes? Using closed cell spray foam for insulation followed by wallboard for sides and ceiling, with rubber mat on plywood thats ontop of spray foam ontop of the containers wood floor.
Personally I think CO2 and optimal lighting is the way forward. From what I gather and I’m no expert I believe that’s how the pros do it. CO2 brings its own risks and problems which I’m sure you know about. As for holes in the container, that’s going to bring in the outside temperature and humidity which will need to be controlled. The holes will need to be properly sealed as well to avoid critters. If you get the balance right on this it will be amazing, good luck
You need CO2, if not your intake and exhaust fans will be fighting your AC system.
Well I would like to make it a completely sealed room with CO2, but are you saying with this setup I would also need exhaust with passive vents and or intake fans as well? The fighting of my AC system and CO2 put into the room I feel only way to be effective is without fans to the outside.?.
Ac will just circulate what’s there and maintain the temp and humidity. I would seal completely and be mindful of the CO2. I wouldn’t do the intake and exhaust unless it was to evacuate the CO2 as a backup system should you have a problem.
Ok great! Thats exactly what I needed to hear. I like the adding of intake and exhausts for just in case of backup. Add some dampers or likes of. Do you have a preferred method of supplementing the CO2? I was leaning towards tanks with regulators but open to all ideas.
I’m not an expert with CO2. Never dealt with it at all. I’m coming from the “if it was my project” angle. CO2 brings it own hazards but also has its benefits with regards to growing. The intake and exhaust should be big enough to evacuate should you need it. I think the tank and regulators would be better rather than trying to make your own. I’ve no idea with regards to delivery systems though. Need to dig deeper into this forum and find someone with more in depth knowledge than me I’m afraid
Yes, I meant that if you used intake/exhaust fans to supply outdoor air/co2 that those fans would negate the use of the AC.
I grew once with a tank and regulator and hated it. I was a slave to the welding supply and constantly had to drive there and fill up. This was in the 90’s when it was super illegal as well.
I would research a CO2 generator.
What was the thing you hated the most? Was it just fighting the intake and exhaust? Did you have the intake/exhaust running in conjunction with the CO2/AC?
I had a sealed room in my house, no intake or exhaust. If it got too hot I would open the door .I just felt like a slave to the bottle always having to refill it.
How often were you having to refill? How many Lbs tank? How were the finished buds compared to without CO2 for you? Ive got questions lol
I’m right with you I built a grow room 8 x 12 I have a mini split and I have 8 inch cloud line exhaust fan. I have a filter on my intake and a filter on my exhaust. My plan is for now while the weather is cool I am using the lights for heat at night and just the ambient temperature outside during the day.I have the programmer with the fan so it’s easy to regulate temperature and airflow. But here in the central valley it’s going to be 100° every day before you know it. As soon as that happens I will purchase my CO2 tanks regular and controller. But for the time being I’m just gonna sit back and read and learn as much as I can about it.
It was in 91’, so I don’t remember exactly.
Tank was the tall skinny ones. 4’ plus.
Room was 8’x10’. I was filling it every 2 weeks or less! I think. Been awhile.
I would go with a co2 generator that uses propane. That way you could fill up around the corner and not look suspicious.
I’ve built a couple mini homes from storage containers. First you have to remove and replace the floor. It’s covered with a chemical to keep pests and stuff from traveling country to country. Either that or coat the floor with clear epoxy. Then you can build walls but instead of laying the 2x4 the way you normally would you turn it that way you have room for foam insulation and something to attach sheetrock. The hard part is cutting the steel to fit any a/c or environmental stuff. Unless you have the right tools lol. You could always leave the doors open and build a inset front from wood with a door and a hole for your A/c. I’ve actually been thinking about this for awhile but removing the top and inside the frame and making a heavy-duty greenhouse. Ive settled on a carport turned hoop house lol
Did you end up building one? im in mcalester, oklahoma. thinking about doing the same thing!
I’m in Tahlequah
I am in the process of doing it now. I have one 40ft x 8ft x 9ft container that I have spray foam insulated and in process of wiring and getting everything set up. My older container that’s not as pretty (40ftx8ftx8ft) I’m setting up as my drying room and a work room for trimming and what not. I’m using LED’s, natural gas CO2 burner’s, mini split A/C&Heater one for each room as well as dehumidifiers. I drilled holes for the mini split lines and welded metal tubing for its conduit on the outside and cut holes and welded valves on the rear for allowing inlet and outlet water, so I can fill and empty my reservoir’s without having to lug them around. I also put bigger vents on the drying room container with about a 1ftx0.5ft holes, so I can have great air flow with inlet fans and filters. Everything coming along but has been taking longer than expected. Cant wait till she’s finished out completely.
How’s the car port turned hoop house working out for you so far? I have also been wanting to do some sort of building structure walls but with greenhouse style roof and supplemental lighting. Maybe one day lol. I agree with you on the insert front, and just putting a regular door in it.
Hey RandMcNally420 Im here in Oklahoma as well ! Ive been reading over your post and Im about where you where when you started this post. I have a 45’ HC container, do you have any advice or anything you would of done differently? Since your post is over a year old now was wondering how your project turned out. I have Led’s for the lighting and Im curious to know a couple things one being how big did you end up going on the MiniSplit AC was it enough and the spray foam did you do it yourself if so which did you go with? I appreciate any help you can give Im fixing to go out next weekend and start the framing process excited to going on this venture. Anyways thanks again!
