Ok, found this online. Now since I’m working with the living soil… I watched a video of the guy from Earth Dust and he was explaining the different types of “tea” I’ve been adding a bit of molasses and a small amount of boost and letting it sit for a few hours. Boost is 2-3-6. I think I need to be adding a larger amount. he said 2-4 TBLS per 5 gallons but I’m using a 1 gallon container to water so I was putting in 1 tsp plus 1 TBSP of the molasses. I wish I understood the ppm’s UGH but I didn’t get it last time I tried. I’ll play around with it again today. I clearly need to make some corrections but I don’t want to overdo it either.
Ah. Yeah just amp it up a bit, it sounds like under-dosing
4 tablespoons per 5 gal is roughly .8 tablespoons per gal, or 2.4 teaspoons (I’d round up to 2.5 teaspoons) per gallon.
@MeEasy and @SmokeyMtnHighs may be able to weigh in though, as I believe they both use Earth Dust.
Thanks, Graysin! Plus, I think I have the hang of the ppm’s. I’m sitting a batch of tea now and tested the ppm’s while adding my stuff (molasses, boost and a bit of liquid fish fert), and I now have it sitting at 1520-1540 ppm’s which I think puts me right in the ball park for where I’m at with there? Or should I dilute it down to 1200?
I think because you’re organic, 1200-1500 is a pretty healthy range. My rather limited Knowledge of this realm (I’m working on it) is that higher PPMs are not as scary with organics as they are with synthetics because your plant needs time to break it down - burn is unlikely if not borderline impossible.
I can’t believe I almost forgot @JaneQP - she’s also using earth dust, and is the organics master (and a chemist) so trust her over me any day.
Imo though, molasses doesn’t count when I measure my PPMs. It’s carbs that add fuel for my microbes, rather than directly to my plants.
My first trim attempt. Did I do ok? I thought I’d ask before I trim the other 3.
@Graysin @Borderryan22
Thanks for the tag. You can knock the leaves off hanging on the sides of the bag too. You may want to try and open the middle portion a little also. Leaves with stems longer than an inch or so. Leave some here and there though so they can suck up the light. If it’s covering a bud site and can’t be tucked, knick it. I didn’t defol enough at first and ended up snipping a lot and hurting my yield.
I’m with @Borderryan22 - now is the time to take a bit more than you ordinarily would. In the center and anywhere leaves overlap or rub one another is a good strategy to increase airflow and reduce risks of mold or powdery mildew. I was surprised my first couple grows to remove overlapping fan leaves and feel all the moisture that built up in heavy flower mode - they transpire like crazy.
Hello ma’am, first I want to say those ladies lookin great
I do think you could clean up some leaves on them but don’t get carried away the leaves are pretty good food storages and with living soil being slow release they will help you out feeding if the roots are not getting everything the plants need unlike liquid nutrients that you can just increase the amount of nutrients you are giving them. I agree with
Graysin that it looks like they’re eating some phosphorus from the leaves and you are right on with the idea of tea. I use 1tbs per plant that I will be giving tea and I use enough water to give each plant a quart, but you can mix up to 16tbs in a gallon of water. Here’s the instructions from TGSC it also has the watering suggestion. Also I wouldn’t add molasses there’s already plenty in the earth dust boost
Had it edit that to say wouldn’t add molasses
Thanks for the tag @Graysin
I was waiting for @MeEasy to respond which they did!
I haven’t made any teas with Earthdust yet. I add it to the soil and let it cook before I plant. Then I top dress following the directions from the manufacturer.
@Graysin @Borderryan22 @MeEasy Alright, thanks for weighing in y’all! I’m going to feed them today, so they are really good and wet and then in a couple more days, I’ll go back for another trim.
The fan leaves were gorgeous and I’m giddy with excitement to juice my first fan leaves!! Woo Hoo!! I got a whole gallon bag
Let me know what it tastes like!
@MamaLlama glad you ladies are still rockin it ![]()

I’ve never known anyone to juice the leaves but I’ve seen salads made using them. I haven’t had any but my dogs don’t let a leaf hit the floor they catch em out of the air
… good luck with the ladies
Lady, it was fantastic! It was like the Hulk Hogan of green goodness pumping into my veins. I don’t know how much I was supposed to use but I throw in a big o’handful of those beautiful fan leaves and seemed to be just right.
My juicer died. I wonder how they would be in a protein shake?
TB of peanut butter
covers it all ![]()

I’ma peanut butter nut!!
Oh I could probably try that in the morning and report back. I’ve got cucumbers, Granny Smith apples, and spinach I’ve been putting off turning into blended green goodness for a while now
Let me know. I am a berries and spinach protein shake girl but if the leaves don’t contain THC they could be a nice substitution.
Thanks for the tag but honestly i switched mine over to jacks nutes last night. I honestly feels like it’s more work to me with the living soil then the jacks and the nats are nuts haha i think im just gonna stick with the jacks nutes for my grows. But i understand where some might prefer the Earth Dust. Im going to use mine for some tomatoe plants etc just to use it up. That or ill just send it to someone from here in the forum to use ![]()
