Setback or Future Opportunity for Exansion of Grow 😈

@dbrn32 I’m debating a comparison purchase/test, and it would require your help.

Chil x3 will be here about Dec 30th, which will veg half 4x8 space (38”x96” actual grow area.) HLG has their qb288 bspec boards in. I was thinking 3 boards on triple heat sink to veg other half. I would need assistance picking the best dimmable driver for the application and what other parts are necessary.

I don’t think there will be a huge difference, but I’m kinda nerdy that way.:joy:

I would expect the x3 to be more successful covering half of the 4x8 by way of a 4x4 area. But to answer your question, the proper driver for 3 288 boards is hlg-320h-c1750a. You would need heatsink(s), wire, power cord, electrical connectors, and some random hardware to build it out.

Thanks for your help @dbrn32! I can help but analyze and roll the options over before making the purchase. Am I overthinking the need for 2 veg specific lights? Would a normal full spectrum led light work as well and be able to flower if I wanted?

At necessary par levels should be fine.

@dbrn32 I slept on it and decided to go with another 650r. I can keep it turned down when using for veg. Then if I want to flower, it’s a turn of the dial away.

I spent some time bending and securing limbs last night, and I can envision reducing number of plants from 4 in the tent to 1-2 for future grows. Go ahead and say “I told you so!” @Watt-Sun

It would be simple to put a Mylar divider in my room to flower one in there with the other 650r.

That said, I’m sure at some point, I’ll put both 650s in the room together. Even just for a photo/video op! :joy:

Tent this morning!

I’m not one to talk as I have a 6th cloned WW that I don’t have room or a light for but couldn’t bring myself to cull it. We’ll see how she does off to the side

I’m lucky I have a runt and used different training for each. If all four were as full as #1, I’d be in the front seat of the Struggle Bus by the end of flowering.

I need to start shopping for a couple of nutes for the coming weeks, and I’d love some input. I’m pretty much all GH for first grow.

I’m almost out of RapidStart and I haven’t purchased flora nectar or a bloom booster for flowering. Is there a product better than the GH nute options that will still mix well with the other GH nutes? I bought quarts for the first grow, so I wasn’t married to a line too soon.

I’m interested in Jacks 321, but won’t be out of GH flora trio for a while. It’d be nice if I could start replacing secondary macro nutrients as they run out with something that would work best with jacks.

I’m not much help here🤷‍♂️. I’ve never used GH and With jacks the only thing I add is the armorSI.

I’m planning on using up my Advanced Nutrients supplements with Jacks - Voodoo Juice for the roots, Rhino Skin for silica, Bud Activator for a PK boost at beginning of flowering, a little Big Bud in mid flowering, a little Overdrive in late flowering.

Do you think they would work/mix ok with the GH nutes until I run out of GH?

Sure, don’t see why not.

HLG impresses again. My new 650 will be here Monday! I guess I better get busy finishing 4x8 space this weekend. :disappointed:

I stopped into the local grow store to get some more rapid start and Azos. Chatted with a worker that has a rather elaborate hydro grow with a trolmaster setup. Convinced me to try a new silica, Power Si. It was pricey, but a mono silica. .5 ml per gallon. He said there was a material difference in stem strength, bud density, and “Node Spacing”. (He talks a bit over my novice head sometimes, but cool to chat with.)

Thanks a lot @Watt-Sun. I will be switching when I use up the GH trio for sure. Apparently, there are a few growers in the area that use jack’s.

Anecdotally, that may be sooner than I thought a week ago. Plants are doing great, but drinking more than I expected at this point. (6.5 gal per day to get a total of 3.5 of runoff.) I do plan to tune the runoff down a bit, but if they are holding that much per day, I’d assume they will drink a ton more in flower.

I’m getting close to making expansion functional. I remounted the exhaust fan and added ductwork to the back wall of the house:

Both wall mounted fans are mounted and have a good arc.

All of the drain lines for the flood trays are glued.

I did make 2 drains. One for the left 2 trays and one for the right tray. With a 650r on one side, I figured the ability to separate a side for flowering made sense.

I also got ratchet straps hung and ready when the lights start arriving Monday.

Expansion took another big step today. The second 650 has arrived!realized I want the ratchet strap connected to an eye-bolt to properly orient the light. So I’ll pick a couple of those (assume same for chilled x3) up tomorrow.

I think I’m getting close to decision time, and I’d like some input.

My first 4 plants are in the tent, and doing well in veg.

The 2 older ones are significantly bigger than the other 2. With the second 650r here, would you:

  • Move the two smaller plants into the veg room, and flower just 2 large plants in the tent
  • Then flower the other 2 as soon as those are done, or flower in veg room if the are ready beforehand.
  • Flower all four in tent as is in about a week.

I have a handful of other seeds popped that will be going into solo cups tonight (2x Bubblegum, 2x Critical Mass, and 1x bag seed of my stepson’s.) The bubblegum and critical mass are from the ILGM Veterans Day sale. They’ve been in Azos DI water mix on heating mat for 48 hours and have 1” tails.

@Watt-Sun @Hellraiser @Happilyretired @Covertgrower @Bulldognuts @dbrn32

I’d flower them all out at same time. I’ve had some runts explode on me when I flipped.
