Any specific type of worms? I read about red wigglers and night crawlers being solid. Are people out here buying soil creatures or are they naturally introduced via some other method?
As I understand most of your night crawlers like deeper soil making them good in raised beds very large pots or directly in the earth to work the soil down deep. Red wigglers live relatively close to the surface so they work well in pots with top dress as well as to work the top layer of soil elsewhere. I got a lot of critters from putting my pots outside in the summer, but beware you can also bring in pests when you bring them back in.
That’s good insight thank you. Sounds like both might be a good option to have. I’m thinking I want a living soil fabric pot or bed and I don’t plan on digging into it much at all and then I want bottomless fabric pots for the plants and then place them on top of the living soil beds. I’m reading up on the soil ecosystem and the more I read the more I’m seeing information about the benefits of leaving soil uninterrupted. I wanna use a clover cover crop but that’s as far as I’ve gotten
If you read through the organic mosh pit thread there’s lots of good info for getting started(that’s where I got my start in living soil). Build a soil website and youtube is excellent as well. If you have any more questions just ask and someone will usually be on shortly to answer.
