Recently finished my 4th grow. 2 plants of Girl Scout Cookies AUTO (FEM).
All my grows are INDOOR grows in a 3x3 tent. Two of my grows were with PHOTOS and 2 were AUTOS. At 4-5 weeks both plants started flowering.
I thought this recent grow was the best grow overall, with no problems with pH or nutes or gnats. However, as I harvested and dried the girls, I noticed a LOT of seeds with the buds. WTF?
I have since learned from this Forum that apparently one or both plants must have hermed. Also, someone stated this is more common with AUTOS and may be caused by plant stress.
So, my questions for the Forum are what types of things could have caused this to occur? What stressors are the usual culprits? Could one episode of minor wilting during mid-flowering have caused this?
I’m planning to start another grow soon and don’t want a repeat of this.
On the positive side, I’ve sampled the results and it’s still pretty good, although it reminds me of being back in the seventies, ha ha.
I would say more common with feminized seeds which will include most autos. This is how feminized seeds are created anyway, by forcing a female plant to herm so that feminized pollen can be collected. The the feminized pollen is introduced to a female plant and resulting seeds should be xx chromosome.
From there, anything that stresses plant could introduce hermaphrodite even if not a genetic herm.
Could be crappy genetics i,inconsistent lighting, the nutrient problem or you let them go too long and they started to herm. Possibly a heat issue . You said they started to wilt during flowering did you possibly over water them or the lights too close? What brand of seed did you use?
Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware of how a seed was engineered to grow a female plant.
So does this mean these seeds are feminized seeds? And will they grow AUTOs?
The seeds came from Homegrown Cannabis Co. The wilting was definitely from dry soil. At that time of the growth cycle they were needing water every 2-3 days. I went away for the weekend and when I returned the plants were pretty droopy. I also was monitoring the trichomes for harvesting so I don’t think they went too long.
I suppose either heat or lights getting too close might be possibilities.
Thanks for your input.
I have wondered about that, thank you.
I have found just some buds in my autos would have seeds , 15-20 seeds per plant, I can deal with that and not complain about it. You say those seeds should be female, I could have seeds for future grows. I’m excited to hear that
Feminized means the seed should produce a female plant. Autoflowering means you shouldn’t have to manipulate light schedule to a short day in order for the plant to produce flowers. It’s possible to be both, but not all will be both.
Also cookies are notorious for herming, good smoke just know the risk. But hey you have some fem seeds in case you run low, as long as they are viable. Most seeds such as autos are S1’s which means self pollinated if I’m not mistaken.
