Seeds are ordered, looking for soil/fertilizer help

I use NECTAR FOR THE GODS nutes. And on next grow I’ll be using their soil also. Either #4 or #8. #8 has 50% more perlite. NFTG saved my last grow

Thanks for the follow up skydiver, I liked the idea of the soil at the bottom, and another you linked initially (thanks for that response btw) was like that, but I couldn’t find good ways to get most of the ones I would’ve considered actually shipped. Maybe I’ll give it another look.

I’m considering a rain barrel, not sure if that comes up much here. I tested my tap water today with the root farm ph test kit while I wait for my testers. Looks like 7+ so I’m leaning even more toward the rain barrel.

I picked up a few other things too, super excited to get started. Got some 85L bags of pro mix veg and herb, waiting for bags of perlite to mix to be ready for pickup. Got my 4 plastic pots, thinking 30Gal each (haven’t checked for real yet). Wish I could’ve found fabric pots after reading some other things but I’m just happy these are big. Seeds and legal green both come in the mail tomorrow so that should all be great. Thinking I want to have a grow journal too, some of them are such gold mines for information. And memories. I’m so excited

I’m excited for your grow too!
Make sure if using plastic pots to drill extra holes in the bottom and lower sides for better air exchange etc.
I too have thought about setting up collecting rain water the only thing is I have an OIL roof (shingle) and not metal so I wouldn’t want to use the water from run off of OIL roof due to contamination and all.
Wish I had a pond. GOOD clean Rainwater in my opinion is best to use.

Absolutely start a grow journal but before you do get stoned and come up with a funky name for the title lol

I will definitely be adding drainage holes, and I’m hoping the extra perlite will help with that too. I realized I said 30 gallon pots when I meant 30 L pots (8 gallons). I really just wanted bigger than 5 gal so I’m happy.

Good tip about the roof type too, I’ll keep that in mind. I’m thinking of a rain saucer or a tarp somewhere, I just don’t have a ton of room in my city-sized backyard. I’ll have to think about that some more. Should be a wet rest of April up here, so it might be worth my while to get that figured out sooner rather than later…

And I will definitely see what I can come up with lol, if the stuff I ordered actually comes in today then I’ll see what creative juices get flowing

Welcome Aboard @Griff ! Looks like your getting some great ideas and a good following here . Acquire knowledge and apply is the game , but also you will have fun and enjoy the hobby of growing your own weed ! Wish you well and best of luck ! I envy the f___ out of you folks that can grow legally…that is one of the obstacles I wish I didn’t have to deal with . Enjoy n High Times :sunglasses::v:

If your still on the fence about your soil choices , from a recommendation on here I went with Fox Farms Ocean . Has plenty of fertilizer and nutrients for about six weeks . So then about the mid latter part of veg I was using grow boost and then the flowering nutes by ILGM . IF I Was to have say a do over …I would have vegged longer , I was thinking it was going to get to big for the space it was in . Turns out that wasn’t the case at all . I could have let her get bigger and in turn had bigger buds ! Good luck n High Times :sunglasses::v:

I’m definitely happy to be able to grow legally, I feel for you man. That would be too much stress for me these days  I would’ve grown last year but I was renting, but I was able to buy a house so now I got my own space to enjoy and fill with big beautiful plants!

I did buy some soil already. As with other stuff, I couldn’t find a local source for fox farms and it’s a bit expensive regardless for a first grow in these times, so I went with ProMix Vegetable and Herb. Looking through all the ProMix soils this one had the shortest length of “feed” time at 3 months (i.e. “Feeds plants for 3 months”). I figure I’ll have a long enough veg that the residual nitrogen won’t affect flowering too much, if at all, which I believe is one of the main issues with using this stuff. But it’s cheap and if I can get away without veg nutrients then that saves even more money. I plan on using a bud booster of some kind, still on the fence about which one exactly. I’ll be looking for input on that.

I’ll probably outline my whole plan once I start the grow journal which will likely be a bit later today, so I welcome any and all input you may have  I’d like to have my seeds started at that point, today should be the day they’re delivered… Watch for the tag in the journal for sure though! For now I have to finish up some work (from home) then go check the mail, I just want them in my hands
