Scratch that!
I just saw they make a 4 gallon version and my growspace is remote from where I live so it will be nice to not have to worry about refills so much.

We have lift off!

Do you think I am ok to have these vents open or should they be closed/partial?
I’m sort of guessing the RH in those.
I got the probe through the vent and it’s 90% + RH. No worries there.
Hopefully that humidifier arrives before they outgrow the domes.
Do I need to worry about them damping off with such high humidity for a few days?
Humidifier should be here Tuesday so I can get the environment dialed in.
Nah man, if youre at 90% himidity, just have some airflow in your
Agree with above.
No need to water them either.
They will go several days before they need any.
Right on. Got a fan going in there now.
Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.
I get really excited about new projects and with no experience with cannabis I am glad to be able to ask specific questions and get quick responses.
I’m used to the Shroomery but I know mushrooms well enough to be able to give advice to others there instead of asking.
Damping off is caused by too much water when they only have a tap or very small root structure. I see this in the first 1-2 weeks when folks are watering a 3 day old seedling.
This is one of the most common things people do that kills seedlings.
If the soil is even just a little damp it will sustain a new plant for days.
I tested a new seedling in damp soil and it went 21 days without water before it wilted. Even then it did not die.
I dampened the soil, squeezed it until no water dripped and then planted a seed in it. It broke ground and grew 3 solid weeks. I had a dome on it until it sprouted but not after.
Here is a pic at 14 days.
I do the same spiney. I premoisten the small cup the bean goes in when I put the bean in the water. Once I plant and put her in the dome, I usually do not water either for the full 2 weeks she is in the dome. I have only had to water 1 seedling using this method while they were still in the dome. A fast grower and after a week, the top of the soil was completely dry. SO I gave a very small amount around the perimeter of the cup.
I hydrated the soil to field capacity which is when you squeeze lightly and a drop or 2 runs out and a hard squeeze will generate a tiny rivulet and then stop.
I definitely have learned the hard lesson of over watering with other plant and cacti species.
I did it as a test, not to promote it as something to copy.
So many new growers will water them daily or even more sometimes.
They just don’t need that. The roots grow so fast you have to completely ignore it for it to die of dehydration. Sounds like you have a good grasp of what to do.
I used to work at a garden center and I’ve got several years experience growing various ethnobotanicals. Cannabis is new though and it’s like rediscovering my passion for growing.
You will be a great asset to the forum.
Glad to have you here.
The cotyledon of the BBK had some fungus growing on it and I sort of panicked and trimmed it off with my knife. I assume it is because of the 96% humidity and low air turbulence. The side with what looked like cobweb mold was already browning on the tip.
Should I worry about shock or will the next set of leaves pick up the slack?
@ChittyChittyBangin @Spiney_norman
With the heat mat on most of the moisture has evaporated from the soil. I still feel a little weight to them so I’m thinking wait until it’s a little drier before watering?
I might be overthinking things.
I got the humidifier set up and set to hover around 75% ± 5% RH.
Yes wait a bit longer
@ChittyChittyBangin I checked PPFD and it was actually about 400. The tips of the leaves look yellowed.
Burning from too much light?
I raised the light and got PPFD to about 250.
Also the pots are pretty much bone dry. Should I water or wait until they wilt?
If they feel dry then go ahead and water. 200 to 250 ppfd is where you wanna be
