A flush should be performed with pure water - no nutrients. Am I mistaking what you have said?
I flushed with like 10 gallons straight water. When the PH levels finally matched the water I was pouring in (6.5), the last gallon I poured through had a small amount of nutrients in it
Hey brother,
So I flushed last week and got runoff up to 6.5. 6 days later it’s already back down to 5 again. Again, my plant seems 100% healthy in late flower, probably a few weeks left. I really don’t know what else to do… couldn’t it just be due to actual nutrient uptake? Her favoring cations over anions? Isn’t that possible? Should I get lime and top dress? Or am I worrying about something that doesn’t even matter because she seems healthy? I’m also using cal mag in my solution. What PH do you aim for? And do you vary it during your grow? Half of the internet says “keep it lower during flowering” and the other half says “keep it higher during flowering”… this is why I’ve just tried to stick with 6.5 the entire time. Idk who is right or what to do, everyone wants to have a different opinion and always thinks they are right. I wish I just knew the truth.
Thanks
Are you pH adjusting your feedings?
Yes 6.5 every time. Is it possible my plant is just favoring cations over anions and is fine? I just can’t believe my runoff is 5 every time. I’m even using cal mag
Somethings up with the soil and how its reacting to nutrients… i personal would never grow in FoxFarm. But, thats me…
Ive got a plant that keeps keeps climbing up to 7.0pH i keep watering it 6.0 and it will drop but then rise right back up again. I feel your pain. But, like yours, its growing fantastic so i dont know…
Why not?
I just dont feel like dealing with the salt build up and having to flush… i guess i shouldn’t have said never… i was getting into making my own composte soil until i started reading up on growing cannabis. I quit making my own soil now also… i am using Coast of Main Stonington blend for my next grow…it has 4 weeks of nutrients before you need to feed and theres no flushing nessassary.
I’m gonna look into that
It is not the soil that is a problem. It is their nutrient line. Their soils are great. We see growers have a problem with a handful of bags every year, but that it typical of any product.
Ohh, i see… so i could use say, FFOF with Jacks 321 and be better off ?
Correct
I would really like to get the hang of making living soil so that i would never need any extra fertilizers. Thats where i was heading before i started taking in all this new information on growing cannabis.
… i was trying to get away from Miracle-Gro grow and was experimenting with making composte soils. I will eventually get into making my own living soils and just natural fertilizer like worm tea out of a bubbler/aerator… this has my attention. Alot easier to manage pH and PPMs if you ask me… this grow i have going on now is all over the place.
Wouldn’t having all those nutrients in the soil too early on cause nutrient burn/lockout though?
Its in a healthy living soil that will be able to take it from seedling to flower… theres alot to learn about this approach. Its all organic… its not harmful like synthetic fertilizers…organic living soil is very harmless and very helpful for cannabis. Its like using manure but on a fine tuned level…
I would love to do that. But just with bagged soil and nutrients, my wife already thinks I spend way too much time in my tent lol. I can only imagine how far I’d go if I started to make my own soil ![]()
Most likely your soil is buffered with lime which holds the soil at 7.
Yes, i made my own composte soil last year and threw a bag of lime in it to help decay the composte materials. It does like to sit around 7.1 but recently the runoff is saying 6.4 but i know it can rise…
6.4 your good. I got a few bouncing around in soil this year.
Its what i have always grown in but i never bothered to learn about pH and PPMs until i started growing cannabis and joined this group.
