Setting up grow room. It’s taken forever to get everything I didn’t know was needed.
Questions: got a 39 X 39 X 72 tent. got thermometer turned on 400 HP light & temps sitting at 90. Also displays humidity which is 55. This is in an empty room now. Will plants burn at this temp & how do you increase humidity. I thought too much humidity would cause mold.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
90* is too high…75*-80* during the day with a 10* drop at night is great. A cool mist ultrasonic humidifier will help lower temps a few degrees.
@Countryboyjvd1971 has info I believe on another type humidifer.
So 70% for seedlings as well? Also my tents in bedroom. Should humidifier be inside tent or just in same room?
Sorry but one more quick ?
Only have one fan inside tent. Would more fans fix problem or if not would it hurt to leave maybe one door open?
First indoor grow & trying to cross all TS and for all is.
Thanks so much!
yes, 70% is good for seedlings
My humidifier is in the tent…cleaned weekly, I wash the base with hydrogen peroxide 3%, the reservoir above with the water I put salt and water and rolled up paper towel balls, seal it then shake to clean the inside. Rinse, refill and use.
I just took my humidifier out of my tent, about the third week of flowering
Fans…I have 5 running…two are running all the time, 24/0, one venting the tent at the top, a second 12" oscillating fan below blowing on the pot and lower canopy…then when my 600 watt air cooled HID light comes on, one fan is venting it and two 6" fans blow over the canopy. It took me a while to get them all, the fans have been purchased separately over months of time
My tent is 4’ x 4’ x 70".
Leave doors open, try fans, get the temp under control for best growing environment
My only caution with leaving doors open is making sure they are closed before the lights go off. Messing with light leaks can lead to problems.
Also, this humidifier puts out no white dust. I had a cheaper one in the tent and it ruined a carbon filter (got packed with white powder).
Humidity is less an issue than temps if you are getting 55% without pots or plant matter added yet I would simply use a dome until they are decent size I rarely have my RH above 50% at any point aside from cloning and seedlings. To get temps down you need an exhaust of some kind to draw heat out of tent at 90f you will need multiple humidifiers to raise RH and they will only drop temps 2-3f as well a extra fan will serve more to push heat around evening temps from top of tent with bottom. You need! an exhaust even a little 4" drawing hot air out top of tent
The important factor is an exhaust I abuse my plants all the time where humidity is concerned they adapt trust me I had 4 humidifiers running at one point trying to get RH up in my crawl space but without turning exhaust down which raised temps too high 70% was impossible. Right now my ladies are vegging at 30-40% RH no ill effect my flower spaces sit at same no humidifiers plants adapt and by the time I have 4 nodes even my seedlings are used to the lower RH but heat kills fast.
This is the deal. I’m trying to get this started. Already have exhaust and two fans. When temp was done it was done with exhaust only running.
Everytime I think I’m ready to order seeds I find I’m not ready. Soooo, gonna put off humidifier, if necessary maybe by placing a regular humidifier in same room as I can afford the one Mathew sent to me. I’m in a state where it’s still very illegal but with husband’s illness and mine as well medical does wonders but the $, Yikes.
I’ve got exhaust, two fans, pH& TDS, good soil good h20, a MH lite on way ad a HP lite. Don’t ya think I can start my first indoor grow. Afraid if I keep analyzing all this info I’ll have a large paperweight in my house. Unfortunately money has alot o do with it. We’re both 63 yrs and partially retired. We’re the cool gramdparents
You can try using a evaporative type humidifier
I’ve got one thought instead of inside tent leave door open at times with humidifier blowing in. Work?
where are you exhausting air to? and are you able to draw cool air into space say from basement or crawl space outside?
The white powder stuff is annoying, it’s getting on everything. My concern is this, will it do harm to the plant?
It didn’t seem to affect the plants for me since I only needed the humidifier during the early stages. It had time to go away maybe?
Also, rain water will help since it’s super low PPM, lacking a lot of those minerals that turn into dust.
I’m venting under house as it’s a trailer.
Thanks mathew420, appreciate everything
With a evaporative type humidifier you don’t get all that mineral dust which can and eventually will clog you carbon filter
I personally use one that’s big enough for about 600 square feet and leave it running out side my tents and maintain a 65% or close to it room then allow my exhaust fans pull humid air into my tents threw passive vents
Thanks cowboyjvd1971. Ordered another fan and then seeds. Gotta start, this paperweight is useless till I commit
Sure thing I’m in the hvac buisness so if I can assist you let me know
Happy growing @Laurap
Thanks sooo much. You , matthew420, Hawkeye diesel country boy kaboongster and sooay others have helped!
The room the tents in with door closed is very cold. We have central air so maybe it’s a good thing it’s gets so cold
Donaldj been alotof help. May thanks
