I didn’t take any offense to what you said. The yellowing on these is due to being root bound and fed flower nutrients when they were trying to revert back to veg because my timer got messed up. My ph has been in line throughout the grow. It was all due to the issues above this time. I appreciate you chiming in, I like having discussions and tossing ideas around.
Agree and its conversations like this that I sought this forum in the first place. I don’t mind making a ‘mistake’ while learning (re-learning) to grow, but for the longest time I was struggling to understand why my plants did what they did. Hell I even mailed water samples to my buddy who is a chemist!!! I know I probably shocked the hell out of an already high-maintenance plant (sour diesel) when I watered with pH 8.0 water. I read on another site that this particular strain prefers soil pH in the 5.8-6.0 range? Moving forward, its something I intend to check for every new strain i grow.
My sophomore attempt at growing will be much different:
- 7 gal fabric pots
- living soil (no ferts, tossed the CalMag, just water meticulously pH’d for specific strain)
- using straw mulch as a cover crop to maintain moisture
- watering less, foliar spraying daily
I’ve discovered Epsom Salts and use 1tbsp : 1 gal as a foliar spray during veg period only. It helps keep the leaves green and lush. I think for someone new to growing, just the act of spraying their plants daily gives that feeling of “I’m doing something” without overwatering.

Why do you use it in veg only? The demand for Mg isn’t very high until 2nd week of flowering. Also, how is that keeping your leaves green and lush? It’s just sulfur and magnesium, so please explain your thoughts
The straw is just mulch to help maintain moisture in the rizoshpere. A cover crop is actually something you plant, like clover. I figured I should help straighten that out for you
While researching my my yellowed leaves, I discovered others using Epsom Salts diluted in water for foliar spray as well as watering directly.

I have not used any foliar spray for my flowering plants, though as much as I’d like to try! My concern was adding any more moisture and encouraging bud rot. I did water the Epsom into my flowering plants, and I’ll say I think it made the leaves go from lemon to lime colored…
@Budbrother thank you for the correction, straw mulch! I do have a mix of some covercrop seeds I will try with my next run.
@MattyBear so what is your plan to soothe your plants and return their color a darker green color? Or will you just ride it out for the remainder of the flowering cycle?

Pre-foliar spraying, no epsom salt, in FFOF+ 1 gal pots
Fast forward to today, daily foliar spray w/ Epsom in 7gal pots
Of course along with the 7 gal pots they are just getting rooted into the supersoil layer below FFOF & LightWarrior.
What can I say I’m a believe in salting my plants!!!
