I’m very new to this. I’ve been in the vegetative stage for three weeks and my plants are doing horribly. I do know I used the wrong soil by using soil from my yard and it’s not draining well. Do you know what might be wrong with the plants? Should I transplant into better soil or is there a way to fix the soil I have? I do wait until the plants are dry on the soil meter before rewatering if that helps.
Need to get a TDS meter and PH meter. You can get a cheap set off amazoon for about 20 bucks. Soil out of your yard might be contaminated and/or might not have any nutes. How is your drainage?
I have a soil pH meter. Draining is awful. My pH in the soil runs high (7.5) even when I add pH down to the water. What’s a TDS meter?
When you say soil ph meter… what are you referring to? Your PH is wayyyy to high at 7.5 you need to be at 6.5 in soil. Also, drainage. You need ALOT of drainage. Cannabis roots hate to sit in wet soil for long periods of time. It leads to root rot and will kill the plant. TDS ( total dissolved solids ) measures the PPM ( parts per million) of nutrients in your water. It lets you know how much nutes are in the soil amd wether there it too much , too little, or just enough
The TDS value (Total Dissolved Solids ) gives the sum of dissolved solids in water. These solids include for example salts, minerals and metals. The value is also called the conductivity of the water. Because the more such solids or ions are in the water, the better it conducts electricity. TDS meters typically quantify this conductivity in microsiemens or ppm. The latter stands for parts per million
Not sure how to do so that far in to veg but The best soil for marijuana plants is a well-draining mixture, rich in organic matter, and has a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0. The ideal soil composition includes a mixture of perlite, coco coir, vermiculite, and compost . Perlite is a volcanic glass added to soil mixtures to improve drainage and aeration.
Thank you so much. I have a meter from Amazon that I stick in the soil to check soil pH, water moisture, and it also has lumens. I also have a pH water monitor. At this point do you think it would be best to transplant to a different soil/pot or get the tds meter first
At this point should I transplant into different soil or possibly add perlite etc to the existing soil. This week is week three of the vegetative stage
You def need better soil. I use fox farm soil. And then use ur ph down to get water to the required ph levels. I think both r ur current problem but soil definately. It probably started off good and as time went on each time u watered the dirt became more compact strangling the roots cutting off its oxygen which will start by slowing the growth then killing plant. The ph is important too but the soil is 100% the first thing that needs attention. Ph is easy to fix
Thank you so much
That ph meter your using is pretty much useless for growing cannabis you need a quality meter from a company like Blue labs or Apera agree with the rest problems are probably soil related
Thank you so much. Looking into it now. Do you think the soil caused a nutrient issue or even possibly a fungal issue?
More than likely a combo of wrong pH and poor soil. Together that’s a bad mix of problems.
As mentioned a pH meter is a must. You can get an Apera with calibration fluids for about 50 dollars and a more cannabis friendly soil. The investment will change your grow dramatically. Good lighting is probably the #1 thing for a good grow. Once you have a good setup you will recoup all the invested money by growing enough product to save that money or more if you were buying either street or dispensary weed.
Thank you so much. I’m working on ordering everything now
