So you basically put some of your soil in a bottle with water shake it up let it settle for a while and then take a reading. ( slurry test)
@kellydans
No I just sucked some the run off up with a syringe and put in a separate cup to test.
Should I do this instead.
No either way will give you a reading of ppm. personally the runoff is the best way the water is going all the way through the soil.
I can only make 5 gal of water at a time.
Okay the numbers you gave me of the PPM on all three plants, I think you can live with that. I mention to flush at the start because looking at the plants I thought your soil was too hot.
So dont worry about a flush?
Your numbers on your PPM looks okay. People grow in Super Soul to be all organic an supposedly the mix has got all of the NPK to meet all of the Cannabis needs from start to finish. You can try adding something natural to get your pH in line . Iâve never had a pH that high pH problems Iâve had is when they take a dive down round 5.6 and I add a little lime to get it up. The problem with flushing Super Soul youâll be washing out all your nutrients. Hold off on the flush.
@kellydans
So what should I do?
Regular soil with synthetic nutrients requires careful pH monitoring. When you use a living soil, and arenât adding anything thatâll kill of the microbial biome, pH isnât always required as the soil-food web will buffer most of it. Still, You canât add super high or low inputs and expect the soil to do all the work.
What should I do?
Which specific âgarden sulfurâ did you add, and how much?
Have you ONLY been using distilled/RO water without anything else, no pH up or down?
Iâm not so concerned with your ppms, itâs living soil, it can be all over.
Is this the current soil pH after adding sulfur? If itâs just collected from the bottom of a container it can be skewed. I use a slurry test more often.
The whole time, youâve been pHâing the water? Using what products, and what type of water (ppms if available).
My tap water runs high around 8.1 so I use citric acid to bring it into range. Ppms idk I just fill a 5 gal bucket and use some water conditioner to get rid of chloramine and chlorine.
Do you wait 10ish minutes after adding to check pH? I find citric acid does a quick drop, then the pH slowly rises. Especially if the water ppms are higher.
Also, tap water isnât the greatest for living soils unless youâre really lucky. An RO buddy will provide 6± months of RO water for $50.
Your water(Ing) may be a big part of the initial issue.
But that doesnât help right now does it.
Can you do a soil slurry test at your convenience?
You may have to do a major flush and then begin feeding as if you were in regular soil. Just because this soil may have been put out of whack and is no longer viable as a âliving soilâ.
Never actually waited and neverbheardnof an RO Buddy, so basically once i flush Im in regular soil meaning I wasted money on all the amendments?
Iâm going to tag a couple people to chime in. Theyâve got a bit more experience with living soils.
@Skydiver @Budbrother @RAP
Iâm thinking the soil is fairly out of whack, the microbes minimal or dormant and the only way to effectively save the grow is to try and flush out some of the excess amendments and then treat as a regular soil/ bottle feed. Input?
