Peat pots & soil

I intend to germinate AK-47 seeds in peat pots. My question is: When the roots have started to show through the sides, do I move the peat pots to potting soil or neutral soil for the first week or so?

@River_Rat I would transplant to whatever growing medium you intend to finish the grow in. Do not use Miracle Grow soil. you’ll be fine.

So, you’re suggesting that I transplant the peat pellets to a neutral, non-fertilized soil for the first week or two? Also, since I don’t want to transplant twice, which would be the better fabric bucket size to transplant to, a four or five gallon? Would a four gallon be big enough to complete the grow in? I plan on planting 5 seeds in a 4’x4’ tent with a 600w led light. Thanks.

SlowOldGuy: You got me there. It is a Vipar model V600. Led power- 600W. LED Quantities- 120pcs Epiled/Bridgelux LEDs. Nothing in the manual about chip-on board, Burple or Quarterbacks. It does say 3x3 coverage for vegetative @ 32" & 2.5x2.5 for flowering @ 22".

I didn’t get that from @Covertgrower post. He said transplant to whatever you intend to grow in. There’s no reason to transplant twice in that short period of time to specifically be in an inert medium.

I’m sorry, I wasn’t clear. I meant transplanting to neutral soil for the first week or two before beginning to add nutrients to that soil. Not transplanting again after a week or two.

that is Blurple,
this light will NOT do what the advertisement says it will do,
it will not replace a 600w HPS, u would need 3x V600 Vipars to come close to a 600w HPS,

at 260 actual watts it will cover 5 square feet, about a 2’ x 2.5’ area of your 4x4 tent.!!
to fill the whole tent with light, 4 of them would do good.!

i strongly suggest to start with the Vipar and when u get another light to add to it look into HLG Quantum Boards, u can fill a 4x4 with 600w of QB instead of 1000w of Blurple.!

Let’s see what our new members grow goals are and go from there instead of strongly suggesting items they may or may not want or need. Thanks :v::bear:

That makes more sense for sure. Once you decide on what you’re potting into it will be easier to determine that.

Thank you for your concerns MattyBear & dbrn32. All I want is to resume getting high again after a 20 year hiatus. Although Michigan has legalized recreational pot, there might be a one year delay in licensing retail stores. Therefore, growing (up to 12 plants is allowed) seems like the quickest way for me to resume my enjoyment. I just need enough for myself & to share a smoke with a few friends. I’m not out to set any records or go into business, just grow and get high.

that 600 Vipar might get u there.!!

i like neutral soil from start to finish, feed em what i want when i want,
assuming u r using the peat pellets, inch and a half tall, once roots r showing they r ready to feed.!
1/4 strength at first.

if u r using fem seed then 5 is too many,
2-3 would be maximum.!
u could do one big plant with 4-5 months veg,
regardless of 1-3 plants, maybe do a 2’ x 2.5’ ScroG…???
how many plants dictates the pot size, 4-5 gallon would be good for 2 plants, but too much for 5plants and not quite enough for one plant.

1)From what I have read in the seed section, at least1/3 of the people who grew AK-47 had one or more seed fail to sprout. If I started out with 2-3 seeds, I might end up with 0-1. I’m not an expert grower like you, so I prefer to increase my chances for success.

  1. I can’t think of any reason for vegetating one big plant for 4-5 months. I want to smoke what I grow, not marvel at it’s size.

  2. After I have more experience, I will try a scrog, but I don’t want to overly complicate my first grow.
