So I just popped a couple new seeds today. Fresh out the soil. I’m seeing that the par should be between 150 and 300 and the DLI should be about 15 to 20
I know it all matters on 18 or 24.
So I’m curious what par do you keep your fresh seedlings? What about DLI?
How long do you leave the lights on?
Are you like motel six?
I measure PPFD and keep it at 300. I don’t know what DLI this works out to. I run them 18/6 and have ignored DLI.
Your soil looks way wet. Let it dry out before watering again. Waterings should be done daily and measured in milliliters at this point.
I had the top off to fix it because it was a helmet head. I gave it a spray to cover back up. Thanks I will make sure to keep it dryer
Search the ILGM site for “humidity dome.” You don’t really need to water the soil at all using this method until the seedling outgrows the dome.
@MidwestGuy should I poke a couple more holes?
I should have been a little more clear. I would let that soil dry out before doming the plants.
Roots need oxygen to do well. All a seedling has is a single tap root. It can’t extract oxygen from soil that is wet all the time. A seedling will tolerate dry soil far better than it will overly wet soil.
Guess that’s the tricky part. Want enough water to germinate the seed and not dry out. But not to much or it’ll choke
Just wanted to share this here. I don’t usually use domes past the point they break surface so I can’t comment there.
@Low i actually just took it off so the soil can dry out some. on my last plant i took it off after the first 24 hrs. this is only my third plant since March.
So when I plant a cracked seed in there I will usually keep it covered until it breaks through the surface. If I’m starting lot of plants I use a little humidifier/mister thing. Idk what it’s called.
i have an actual dome that has vents coming from amazon today. the cups will go in there and it has a vent for air… they will live there till i flower my plant in veg this week
