I’m a bit confused when it comes to what type of water to use for an outdoor plant. I seen that Reverse Osmosis is the best, but it’s not really cheap for what I was needing. I looked into tap water, since I get it for free from a source down the road. Here is some info I was looking at from an annual report from the water provider:
Treatment Process:
Coagulation
Filtration (has an M under it, not sure what that means)
Taste/odor/algae toxin removal
pH correction
Disinfection
Until I could afford Reverse Osmosis down the road, how big of a negative impact would using this tap water on the outdoor plants be? Do any of you out there use tap water on their plants?
As long as you air out the chlorine, add your nutrients, check your ppm (and make sure they’re within limit,) and adjust your PH I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t use your tap water.
I use well water on my indoor and outdoor gardens and plants
I do adjust ph when watering my container plants but anything in the ground I just water from the hose
I do watch my ppm when feeding also as @Mrgreen3461 mentioned and @Matthew420 has given a great suggestion on collecting rain water
I’ll be setting up a collection system up my self in the coming weeks
Happy growing
I’m really surprised that collecting rainwater is as good as people say it is. It does catch everything it hits on the way down. Does it go untreated or do the people that collect it filter it?
Good Lord! I doubt plants are that fussy! We pump water up from a nearby marsh and use it directly on the plants. Have done this for years with no problems.
I only use tap water , have never checked the pH of it ,just water the plants, but I don’t think we have all that stuff in our water here in Australia as you do there, could be wrong but don’t think so.
