Organic Living Soil Indoor Winter Round

So late to this party but set to watch!!! Want to learn as much as I can about Organics and living soil and this just might be the place to be.
@Roadsideorganics.ok you got some beautiful ladies and they look to be settled in a glorious bed of prime dirt!!!
Question for anyone who has any input… besides this forum, does anyone have any good recommendations for learning more about organic growing and living soil and whatnot. I’d like to grow organically for my next grow if possible. Currently have a grow that I’m flipping to flower on Friday so I got a little time to plan and learn.

Thank you, and welcome to the organic train!! If you are on Instagram at all shecknout my lost.hwy.farms page i share alot about our organic growing process on there, might have to go back a little to when the season was in action lol. Its all greenhouse and outdoor but still great info.

You can also checkout Build A Soils website they have alot of great videos on organics, some can be a bit intimidating but great info. There is a small tips n tricks bit on the roadside organics site as well but nothing as nice as build a soils lol, im still working on it.

Otherwise id be more than happy to answer any questions or dive into any topics your interested in on here, i dont keep any secrets about our grow process. I did another short forum on here for our 2023 Lost Highway Farms outdoor run as well

@Roadsideorganics.ok super cool!!! I checked out roadside Organics website and there’s some great stuff on there as well as Build-a-Soil too. It is a bit intimidating with all that can go into it but I am excited to learn!!! I’ll most certainly be asking some questions along the way so I appreciate that!!! Looking forward to the journey!!!

I got into mixing my own soil abou 3 years ago which led to composting, learning how and when to use things like chicken poop, worm casting, wood ash, coffee grounds food scraps. Building soils, hell to even use my pond water to water down my compost and soil for micronutrients and such. How to layer and plan out for six months of feeding. It’s addictive and affordable!

Sorry pond this year. Been too dry.

Making your soil is the best! Seems to be the topic that gets so many into Organics, building better soil and saving on being able to reuse it. We make a couple hundred gallons a season to add to the grow as we get bigger, but have some soil thats been going for 7+ years and just gets amended between runs. Love the pond water action thats awesome! Ive had to pump water from our creek a few times to feed the plants, bring on the microbes!.

Got the compost tea brewing, started it last night for todays tent throwdown. For the compost tea i have about 12 gallons of water with earthworm castings (was all outta compost), brown sugar, yucca powder, and 1/2 cup of Bobby’s Brew Compost Tea Booster, wipl all bre for about 16-18 hrs. I wll be using the tea to water in the week 6 Back Road Blooms topdressing that im getting ready to apply. This will be the final top dressing of this run, setting them up to cruise through the finish line.

Not a whole lot to report this week, day 52, watered with pumpkin fpj again this morning helping them all pack on their last bits of weight and terps and cannabinoids. They are getting watered 3 gallons ea every other day currently, tent is on full stank mode with the Italian Ice unique putrid almost coffee funk. I always have a hell of a time taking indoor pictures, i just cant wait to get back out into the greenhouse!

Just about time to harvest the manure side by side test plants. Goat manure on the left, rabbit on the right, two different personalities from matching clones. The rabbit manure plant has much tighter structure, darker green colors an possibly more resin. The goat manure plant had a little different overall plant shape as it filled its space in veg, and developed a bit more spacing between nodes and subsequent buds as flower came on, ending up with a much more desirable structure for greenhouse growing with far better air flow, it may look like a smaller plant from this angle but there is alot there. Will ultimately be interesting to see how they yield, taste, and smoke. Definitely will be going into this test more this coming summer season.

Other than the manure, our Roadside Organics Highway Dust topdressings have been keeping pace and pushing these plants to perfection. Three topdressings of Back Road Blooms was all it took in flower, with a little pumpkin fpj

Alright we are firing the tent back up for the last of the winter round! Doing it a little different this time. Im working on a video series to help indoor growers get into l8ving soil organics, understand how the system works and how to do it with ease. I am running 6 photo period Devils Food Cake x Mendo Breath, they all just got transplanted from 1 ltr pots and into their final home 10 gallon pots, where the will veg for 6-8 weeks.

10 gallon pots is the smallest i recommend for finishing out in a living Soil system, they allow enough room for soil microbiology to really put in work. This microbiology is what will maintain and buffer Ph, break down and assit in nutrient uptake, compost and break down old roots, prevent compaction, help with water control, defend against pathogens and so much more. When i transplant i roll the top 4" of the pot down, leaving me room to topdress and add soil or compost as the cycle continues.

Im starting out with some recycled soil from the previous run (from the goat manure pot to be specific), i top dressed with Green Mountain Veg and some yucca powder at the same time i transplanted. The yucca powder is a fantastic organic wetting agent to help revitalize the dried out peat based soil mix. At the end i added some cover crop seeds before watering it all in with Hydro Bio (bio fermented microbial inoculation) to kick start the soil microbiology system.

I will try and get some comparison shots from the previous run now that they are all trimmed out, all have subtle differences in how the grew and in their final flower both looks and taste differences are noticeable. Definitely gonna do another side by side on the goat and rabbit manure this full season outdoor round.

Its been a while since ive done a post, been crazy busy out in the Greenhouse and outdoors plot getting things cleaned up and ready for the year. Did one of my favorite quick and easy compost brews yesterday. Ill admit i used wprm castings instead of compost, but thats what i had on hand and it all works! Heres the break down
Couple FAT scoops of castings or compost
Added water
Let soak for 30-45 minutes
And water in
Thats it!!
Adds a great boost of humic acid, low level nutrients and some great microbiology to keep everything going smoothly. This time i added a little yucca powder as a wetting agent as the soil was extra dry. Couple more weeks amd will be keeping 4 in the twnt to flip and two will go out to the Greenhouse.
