Old hillbilly moving indoors

Hello newbie here sort of. I’ve been farming outside for many years but now due to my health I can’t make those hikes back up the mountain.
So to continue gardening I’ve built a 4x8 grow room in my basement.
I’ve read most of this sites information as well as the book. But I’m still not decided on the type and amount of lights I need for 4 plants, 2 AK47 fem and 2 Northern Lights fem. grown organic.
Right now I’m leaning towards a 1000watt MH for veg. And 1000watt HPS for flowering.
My basement is very cool and ventilation is no problem. So I’m not worried about over heating the plants.
Am I on the right path or should I rethink my plans?

I think with your space it would be better to use 2-600w HID setups. That way you can spread the light out more for your plants. And welcome to the great indoors lol! If you’ve got any pictures to share I would love to see them! Tag me as you go along I definitely want to watch.

2 - 600 watt HIDs would give better light coverage.
What do you think about the iPower brand of light kits?

Welcome to the forum

@hillbilly103 perfect! If you get the kit that comes with both the MH/HPS bulbs then you’re good to grow from seed to smoke!

If you could get 2 1000w air cooled hoods you would be in serious business. 2 600w is still great.

I ordered the 2, 600 watt kits just now
I’ll start with them and add more light if needed
Maybe a LED or another 600
My room is just 4x8 feet and I’m going to start with 4 plants, 2 AK47s and 2 Northern lights

Those lights will produce a good amount of heat. Is this going to cause issues for you? Or do you already plan on exhausting the heat out of the grow tent?

Just a heads up, in case you weren’t thinking about it. Those lights will grow you some amazing buds tho dude, you’re going to be so happy in a couple months!

And great idea with the “adding more later” logic. I know I for one did that! I started with one of the 600w Air cooled setups. Then, bought another. Then, bought 2-300w MarsHydro LEDs lol! I’m looking at a 600w LED next!

I have 2, 6" 450cfm exhaust fans, 1 for each light. Plus my grow room is 10ft under ground in my basement, temp in the basement runs 60-62 degrees year around.
I don’t feel heat will be an issue.
The fans are variable speed which will help me regulate the grow room temperature
Thanks for all your input I need all the help I can get.

With the knowledge I’ve found here I’ve got a plan, now if it will all just come together
When I get all my “kit” assembled I’ll start a grow log and hopefully you and others will guide me along from germination to harvest
