Im going to be amending my soil using fish emulsion before i plant and i wanted to know if and when i should add more.
I think we may be using the word amending differently, so I want to clarify. Fish emulsion isn’t really a soil amendment. It’s a fast acting, partially soluble, liquid nitrogen source. Applying it before planting and then putting a seedling into that zone can very easily lead to nitrogen burn; especially in young plants with undeveloped roots. It’s better used after a plant is fully established, and even then at low dilution, as a supplemental feeds. It’s not as a pre plant “amendment.”
When people talk about amending soil, they’re usually referring to incorporating a dry, slow release, input (fish meal, compost, bone meals, etc.) that has defined NPK values that breaks down over time. This allows for the micro heard to buffer the availability for seedling safe without burning them.
So bottom line,i should wait till plant develops and not before i plant?
