Strain; strawberry kush: from ILGM

Age from Sprout: 18 days

growing in Hydroponic. Planted in aero garden sponges. I had no success with the jiffy pots and 99.9% germ rate with the sponges.
2 inch net pots in 20quart container

How often do you water and how do you determine when to do so? i have not added any water to the res because it never got low. I have done one res change. I change it every 7-10 days because it gets a little smelly. I don’t smell anything when i lift up the lid and the roots don’t stink but by past experience it gets nasty fast. I will be doing a full res change again today.

PH of water and run off or solution in reservoir: i keep my PH between 5.5 and 6.5 i check it twice a day. It has been a 6.0 for 99% of this grow. I do not add PH up or down to the res.

What is strength of nutrient mix? EC, or TDS: Not Sure started with the flora trio 1/4 tsp i added it to a gallon and put it in the 20 quart res

Indoor

Light system, size and height from plants:
300 watt ufo led. i keep the light as high as it can go in the grow box

Temps; 75-85, Night: 65-70

Humidity; Day, 35%, Night 51%

Ventilation system; Dual exhaust fans and an intake fan they are 4.75″by4.75′ fans. With carbon filtration the grow box specs are four feet tall, 18″ wide , 13″ deep. heat has been a bit of an issue i’m doing my best to manage it. going to be installing an AC in my room shortly which should eliminate this problem

AC, Humidifier, De-humidifier: putting in ac soon

Co2; No:

also for the white mildew i found on the sponges i sprayed it with diluted peroxide. pretty sure the white mold grew because i goofed the res was to high and kept them wet it looks like it cleared up about 95% I did just notice that one of them has a green spot on the sponge.

Your pH really needs to be at 5.8 for your roots to be able to uptake the nutrients. Both ends of that 5.5 to 6.5 pH spread will cause nutrient lockout!

I’d say if you keep it close to 5.8 will eliminate any further issues related to pH

so it does not look like mold? I just took my ph it was at 5.7 i really don’t think its a ph issue…

Humidity is way to low also, get a humidifier with a controller for 40 bucks, mine comes on and keeps the humidity at 60 lights on and goes off when my lights do

I’m positive it’s not morning but have to go with pH or it some kind of deficiency for sure if you can get a little bit better picture of that leave that would help a bunch good luck and good growing she’ll come through

I’m going to tag a few of the hydro guys for you
@Noctis420
@Donaldj @Hawkeye_diesel maybe they can help you better
I’m. Soil guy myself so I won’t give advice but from reading the post it sounds like a nute lock out situation cause of you ph fluctuations
Good luck and happy growing

As Bob said the ph should be at 5.8 ideally is the sweet spot. You should be checking the ph and res daily if you are having an issue. What is the ppm of the res? PH up and down should really be added to the res when the ph gets out of whack.
Shouldn’t need to water since they are in hydrometer the only things you should have to do is add the nutrients and top off their res when it gets low. I check my ph and PPM daily as well as anytime I change the res and then I check it after about an hour to see where it’s came out at.

Has anyone concidered the fact that the ppm we are hearing is a 1/4 tsp in 5 Gal of water? this would be barely 100 ppm in RO the leaf symptoms look a lot like Phosphorus Def?

This would be my first guess But! it is very important you know ppm it isn’t as simple as 1/4 tsp it is what was in the water to start with and how much is it now? also in hydro it is one of the top indicators to plant health

And that’s why I tagged you @Donaldj I knew you could help
I don’t know enough about the hydro so thanks for responding

The wording on the ticket says 1/4 tsp 1.25ml in a Gal added to 20 quarts so the dose is less than 1/3 recommended for seeds or cuttings if using a filtered water ppm could barely be 100? and a seedling with nice fan leaves and decent roots would be wanting to be fed, in the 2-300ppm range give or take have to keep in mind there is nothing but what you add in hydro so if you add too little the poor ladies eat themselves gone too long they will stunt.
PK is the building blocks for your roots without P or K in decent dose the plant will eat it’s leaves to grow root system or stall entirely

I am also growing hydro. I agree with @Donaldj, looks like a phosphorous deficiency. Since she is only 18 days from sprout, I would start by getting the ppm up to around 300 and see how she looks after a couple days. Then increase to 500 ppm the following week. From there I would watch her and and adjust ppm as needed you may need to increase ppm to around 1000 as she gets closer to bloom. Go slow though and only increase if she is showing signs of needing more. If you do need to top off the res at any point, I find topping off with a 1/6 dilution works well. Every plant is different though, so keep an eye on her and let her tell you what she needs.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I do notice a little stunted growth up top but the roots are growing like crazy overall though I think it’s going better now. I took the ppm earlier and it was at 350 and the ph was at 5.9. I will up the nutes to 1/2 tbs and see how it goes. I have read that you shouldn’t put in to much ph up and down though? It’s sometimes a pain to get it at a certain ph. I will post new photos later today. I also trimmed one plant because the leaves were terribly crickled and basically useless to the plant in my opinion. Essentially this is my first hydroponic attempt. And one plant in thete has no spots or anything on it and my carbon filter is failing these things got really stinky!

Also is it better to premix nutes in a gallon or just add it right to the resivor?

Well since you have the same set up as me I might as well chime in. The first pic you posted kinda looked like it could have possibly been heat stress. Also I agree with the 20 ppl Saying add more nutes. Do you use tap or RO water? I know I should have a ppm meter but due to an issue I had with Johnny law… Can’t really spare the 140$ ATM lol so I free ball my nutes. My GF is a pharmacy tech at CVS n got me some syringe things without needles that r pretty sweet when adding nutes. Is there any way to private message on this site? I have a batch of bag seeds in flower ATM that I think I did well with despite not having a ppm meter, humidifier, or hell even a thermometer in the cab. Def think I could help you out with a few things and or give you some pointers of things I did that helped my grow @Noctis420

Yeah heat stress is definitely been a issue for me bUT I’ve recently installed an air conditioner and I think it’s helping. My main problem now is the smell is leaking. It has a built-in carbon filter but it’s failing and it’s not even near flower time it’s going to reek by then. My only idea was to setup 6 inch ducts to the exhaust systems and use aluminum sealing tape to hold it in place and have it go into a carbon filter from there, just hope it doesn’t mess with the circulation. Any other suggestions for that in this grow box? I would use a tent but my space is to small. I have everything I need for nutes. I do have some flat tipped syringes too which I use for ph up n down. I just use my measuring utensils to do the nutes, pretty straight forward. I have a cheap tds meter from amazon, its not the best but it seems to work. For water I just use distilled. I’ll be adding nutrients tomorrow. Thanks for chiming in Tonyb not sure how to tag your name.

So I trimmed the leaves and it seems to start turning yellow on the next pair of leaves above it. I also forgot to say that I have a mini aquarium filter in there because my resivor likes to get yucky fast. I guess I’ll have to try more nutes and hope it gets healthy.

To keep the res clean use hydroguard. It helped me sooooo much. It’s like good bacteria that eats the bad ones

I keep windows open in my room to control smell leakage, but if ur using an ac to keep the room cool u probably don’t want windows open
