Very top of the plant. I have an old Nikon that has good macro capabilities, but this is handheld so not as clear as it could be. The camera sat too long and the battery went bad, so I had to take pics with a cord connected and without a tripod, I just took a couple of shots of the tops. The rest of the plant is very healthy, dense and it could not have gone much better.
With an eye loupe the trichomes are mostly cloudy, but only an occasional trichome has any amber. The pistils are still 90% white other than the very top of the cola.
The buds had stopped fleshing out and the pistils showed signs of starting to curl in and turn brown, which lasted for three days. I expected it would be ready in maybe a week when that happened. Then the buds started getting fatter again and the pistils all fleshed back out and straightened back out like it is having another growth spurt. I’m thinking that’s the last hurrah and expect to harvest by the end of the week.
The only issue I’ve had is that the last few days the leaves near the top are showing signs of calcium deficiency and potassium deficiency, but it’s so close to harvest I see no reason to worry about that.
One of the WWA’s in the tent grew to the height the strain info predicted, the other is maybe 8 inches taller than they are supposed to get and has more bud, but the bud on the shorter one is fatter, so the yield may be similar in the end.
Anyhow, I’m harvesting in about five days unless the buds decide to have another growth spurt and fatten up even more. I doubt that since by today the trichomes are completely cloudy and I see hints of amber starting.
I’m going to grow a single plant in the closet next so I can concentrate on learning to trim better and use LST to better control things for better airflow. I was way too hesitant to thin out the leaves at the bottom this time, or I think I would have gotten a higher yield. I’ll dig the good camera, a high end Nikon, out of the storage room and find the good macro lenses so I can do a journal on the next one. Already sprouted the seed and it went into the soil yesterday.
My wife is more excited about it all than I am and she does not even smoke and never has. Hopefully that will make her forgive me for the process of finding something in our junk room where the camera gear ended up after moving it make room for a home office.
