So I’ve been able to adjust my intake and exhaust flow through the room, my temperature, circulation fans and my humidifier to get my humidity up to 70-80%. I watered yesterday to runoff for the first time, one quart to each of my 5gal pots. Today when I checked the plants they looked fine except I’m seeing signs of damping off. The stems at soil level are already looking like they’re starting to rot. Looks like this grow was never meant to be and I was really encouraged by the recent rapid growth after such a stunted beginning. So much for the NL autos. I have seeds for 2 more auto types and a photo fem. I guess I’ll decide which one to kill next.

Oh no! I think it might be too early to water till runoff. When you have small plants in a big pot, it stays wet and that, of course, can cause damping off. Try to dry them out with a fan. I’m sorry, I hope you can save them. Also get the humidity down.

Try the photo seed next. From the start, post pictures. I agree with @raustin on being too early for watering to runoff.

My Blueberry autos just got their first water to waste yesterday at 1 month of age…

I honestly believe the hardest part when you’re first starting to grow our girls is watering. Lighter is better at seedling stage.

Don’t be down on yourself. We fail, we try again…

I’m wondering if anyone has an opinion on this apparent “rule” which advises no transplanting of Autos to keep from subjecting the plants to “stress”. It seems there are at least as many reasons, water consumption and availability primarily, to do stepwise transplanting of any cannabis plant. As my position on the learning curve seems mired at the bottom of the left side anyway, I may try this with my next Autos. Whattayagottolose? Growing your own is free weed right?

Being an indoor grower, my first attempt at growing “free weed” has cost me a small fortune. I am confident that the results will be well worth the expense and effort.:+1:

The reason for that “rule” is stress related. Autos have an accelerated life cycle. Messing with them causes delays as they recover from stress.

Last year was my first experience knowingly growing autos. The year before I had grown some, but that was before I even knew there was such a thing.

The ones that I left alone after planting did the best. I haven’t done anything with these this year and they are chugging along nicely.

You CAN pot up in steps if you want to, but they won’t produce as much as if you leave them alone.

I usually squeeze my stems and branches to help make them stronger in preparation for holding the weight of the buds. I did it with my autos last year. This year will be hands off the autos.

I still say go with the photoperiod so you can play with them a little. They are able to handle stress better with less loss of yield.

We’ll help you get there…

Wanted to revisit this thread with an update of what I have learned and am learning on my first grow. I’ll try to summarize and show some pics.

  1. New parents , everything that can go wrong is not likely to go wrong with your plants. Save the paranoia for the unexpected knock on your door.

  2. Along with pH and watering, dirt matters. I found deliverance in The Happy Frog.

  3. Autos need to get up and get moving as quickly as possible or they’ll be like teen pregnancy, to young to bear fruit. The fruit however, is still imminent.

  4. Chill out. Keep a close eye on things especially if you think you may have a problem, but knee-jerking is more apt to compound the prob. It’s likely any changes you make won’t show up in your plants for a day or so, so don’t panic. Be patient. Most of my crises were imagined.

  5. A lot of comments I’ve read here say things like “they’ll take off in a few days and you won’t believe the growth”. I have found this to be true.

  6. In you’re serious about primo bud, light the place up. You’ll find the cheaper Amazon lights are fine for vegging, but it’s energy intensity that makes bud killer.

Enough of my bs, except to say if you’ve read my thread, my “runt” is now my biggest bushiest girl.
