Newbie saying hello

Hi all, I am new to both this site and growing and wasn’t sure where to start as far as the forum goes so, thought I’d make an intro n at the same time ask some of my questions about this site and growing. Lol. I have grown lots of fruits vegetables flowers and trees even some mint before but this is the first time I’m growing MJ so I have some questions that I have not found a satisfactory answer to in the PDFs or the blog or guides as of yet. Like, when exactly should you start adding nutrients. Is it by size time maturity a mix of all those? Lol. I also want to post a grow journal of my grow but not sure what info and pictures would be best to post for that. So, hi again and any and all help advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Welcome to ilgm @robnewgrower33 lots of good people here willing to walk you through everything. I’m a bit of a new guy myself so I will let some of the old timers help you out
@Majiktoker @BIGE @Matthew420 @Countryboyjvd1971

Do you already have seeds? What strain are you gonna grow?

Welcome!

Have you decided soil vs. hydroponics? That will help get some answers in the right directions. Many Many great growers here. You’ll have answers to your questions before you even ask them.

Go to the grow journal section and do some browsing. You’ll see what people post for info, etc.

Hi and welcome to ilgm, they say the best time to start nuts is after it has its 5th set of leaves, the rest I’ll leave to the others , @robnewgrower33

howdy @robnewgrower33 welcome! if you’re not crazy about growing MMJ now, you will be soon!!!

Welcome to ilgm happy to have you here. @bob31 im not an old timer lol im younger than all of you here.

Now @robnewgrower33 to answer your question…a good time to start nutrients there are few key things to this ie; plants age, how many leaf nodes she has (sets of leaves) and a really big one is depending on medium. You usually start nutrient at 5-8 weeks old not always the 5th set of leaves unless using ffof soil than you dont feed for first few months another big one comes with temperature and evaporation pressure which can affect how much nutrients and water they will uptake. You do not want these spiraling out of control as it can lead to health problems and eventually death.

Biggest thing about growing is ph, ph, ph

Glad you mentioned that as it can cause problems to feed plants that are getting plenty of nutrition from the soil.

Welcome to ILGM forum :person_raising_hand: :innocent: :v:, you are at the best place, worldwide.

Like said @bob31 @Matthew420 it depend on strain, medium, light setting and other variables. One or two things that you should consider is for seedling take a medium that has no or little nutrients on it. Nutrients schedule depend also on the medium you choose, it’s not the same if you go with soil, soiless aero or hydro system. If you can be more specific on what medium you have the intention to work with, it will be a great help for us to help you better :innocent::+1::v:

Lol ok point taken moving on :+1: and first thing I thought of was the soil

Thank you all and I am actually sick at home today and feel better now due to the laughing. Lol You guys are awesome!!! So, to give y’all more info on my grow now. I have several seeds that I acquired through various bags of weed I’ve purchased through the years and I planted around a dozen of them, most in a jiffy peat pellet in a 99¢ store peat pot a few in a couple 99¢ store peat pots with jiffy organic seed starting soil and had them all covered under a 65w plant light from Walmart. they have since grown and are getting “real” leaves now, but, unfortunately I’ve learned many lessons the hard way and that’s how I found this site. So I expect my next grow to be much better. The seeds were so old I thought maybe one would pop and it wouldn’t make it but I could learn from it. Instead the seeds popped with a better success rate than most things I plant from seed and because of that they have undergone some stress as I was unprepared to handle so many plants so quickly because the other amazing thing about this plant is how much it moves. I check on them every 2-6 hours when I’m awake and every time I see them they are different. So, at the moment I have six plants in the seedling stage and they have stretched a lot and have been exposed to extreme heat and very low humidity. I have most of the issues under control I think. Lol. I came here to learn and give them the best chance though and from now on I will assume every seed could pop even if it’s a hundred years old. Lol. Hope I gave enough info and this isn’t too long.

Are you checking water PH?

And not too long on your post. Background info is good. Helps us understand your particular situation.

They are stretched due to not enough light you need 35-50 Watts per sq ft. Exposed to extreme heat and very low humidity your going to have problems. Also that is what I was warning you about with temps and evaporation pressure…@Matthew420 I do not mind the long post as it shares a lot of valid info we would need as well as pinpoint problem immediately with out beating around the bush will also help this person learn to the fullest

If you have cfl that have lower Kelvin (around 2500) or “warm light” cfl it may be the cause of the “stretching”, your cfl has, must have, to have 6500 Kelvin, that is more of a sun like spectrum, if it’s so, just search for a cfl light like this one, and more then one

http://www.amazon.com/SunBlaster-Watt-CFL-Grow-Lamp/dp/B00AKKU7SA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485915009&sr=8-1&keywords=Cfl+grow+lights+26+watt/?tag=greenrel-20

(If you cannot buy from amazon, i am sure that your local Walmart does ) If you do have a 6500 Kelvin cfl grow light spiral bulb, your light may be to far away ( that’s also valid and more important for a 2500 Kelvin cfl light) it should be no more close than 1 1/2 to 2 feet for seedling consider that a 26 watt cfl produce around 1750 lumens at 1 meter (3.37 feet), closer then 1 foot and you’ll take the risk of light burn.

Hoping that’s helping you @robnewgrower33
