New grower needs soil advice please

Hello. 1st time post here. I am about to start my very 1st grow, and am wondering what to use for soil. The only thing local I’ve been able to find is promix (picture). Would this be ok to use or should i order something online? Also if promix is good do i need to get anything to add to it?

I’m mostly a hydro guy but definitely have my soil experience. Pro mix is great soil I’d go with it. Make sure u get the right size gal to allow for root growth. Personally 3-5 gal I’d say. Then your plants will be good for a while with the nutrients in the soil already. I’d highly suggest Gaia green slow release nutrients get the all purpose 444 and the bloom. One for vegetative growth one to switch to in flower. This stuff is good quality and so nice for beginners cuz all u do is top dress it and water it last a few week each. You need cal mag also apply it weekly. Follow the labels instructions you should be good. I’d also get a ph tester if your ph is off it can’t absorb the nutrients. A ppm meter to measure the amounts of nutrients. Each stage requires different strengths seedling, early veg, late veg and flower. People on here might argue which nutrients to use but I promise for a beginner it’s easy less work and good nutes! The soil should get u through seedling earvly veg. Learn how to water right under watering and overwatering is a big problem. Also learn to low stress train! Instead of one main cola you can have 20. Hope this helps good luck! Growing cannabis is not as easy as people think but u get better!

Now u gotta decide between autoflower or photoperiod. I personally suggest autoflowers to start. It’s fun to see your yields every grow get bigger and bigger as you fix mistakes and learn. I’d also stick to feminized seeds ur learning no need to deal with males at this point. Your not cross breeding.

Roots Organics Original!

Switched years ago… Awesome soil.

@Bmoregraff thanks for the info. Just set up my tent tonight. Still need to get a ph tester, and the ppm meter (unsure what this is need to look it up). I feel like a kid on christmas morning. Lol. I really just want to get the seeds going already, however still researching few things. Trying to have a good idea before i start to hopefully minimize the mistakes i know im going to eventually make.

And yes i went with some autoflower seeds to start. Thinking they would maybe a little easier to start with. Im a little ashamed to say i had already ordered seeds when found this site.

@Growmoredank thanks. Gonna check into it.

I used to pick out seeds out of brick weed and grow it :joy:. I know the anticipation! Ppm measures the amount of nutrients in the soil/coco/hydro water. It’s a guideline on how much each stage needs and can take before it burns. U won’t need at first your soil with have nutrients for a few weeks. Ph is highly important! Also learn how to “low stress train” that is super important when u want better yields. Instead of one main cola or main bud u can get 20. It’s not hard at all just practice. I’m attaching pics to help. Anytime man!

Hell yea! N it helps the plant distribute hormones throughout the plant that is said to boost 25%. Topping to but it does more harm then good on autoflowers because of the limited time til flower

After 3 failed attempts with Promix HP and Earth Dust fertilizer I switched to
Sohum cannabis soil and Gaia fertilizer (all-purpose for veg and bloom for flowering.
Definitely a HUGE difference in quality.
Make sure your light is strong enough too!
HLG is the bomb if your wallet can afford it. Better than wasting money buying 2-3 cheap lights

If top dressing you want need a tds meter just a ph meter

I’ve been growing autoflowers 18/6 in Roots Lush Organics soil, using only PH’d tap-water, seed-to-harvest, in 3g+ pots…if you can find a decent soil like this, have a good environment, and decent seeds:

No worries I struggled to find it when i first got here also.

First time grow here. I did the whole package on the website.auto seeds and beginner nutrients package. . Was planning on in ground not in pots . Any special info ??

Autoflower plants are actually less forgiving. For some reason people like to say they are good for beginners but i dont see how. At least with a photo you can make sure the plant is healthy before you flip it to flower.
