Inline pulls air through bringing cooler dryer air into the tent as its pulling hot air out of the top of the tent.
Smell doesnt happen till flowering at which time you will need to close those off, this combined with the filter will reduce the amount of cooling the fans can do but also eliminates odor. Every aspect of controling your environment is a push and pull kinda deal. Closeing the flaps contains the smell (push) but also reduces the ability of the fan to cool the tent (pull)

You will really want one if these. Temp and humidity controll the fan. While not NECESSSARY enviromental control is a contributing factor to harvest size and quality.
