Need some guidance with timing, etc

Y’all were lots of help two years ago during my first grow, and after taking a year off I decided to do another outdoor grow this year, but didn’t start indoors this time, just threw some seeds of unkown provenance in the ground in May, and hoped for the best. This spring in CO was unusually wet, and really nothing (veg garden included) started to grow much until about mid-June. Ended up with 6 plants (some clearly the same strains as before based upon smell), and now starting to decide about harvesting. My 2021 grow in native/garden soil ended up being pretty sativa-like, and the drying was uncontrollably fast in our dry environment (will try to do what I can this year).

The unusual part of this year’s grow is that we just got home after 3 weeks out of the country, thus the plants were left to their own devices. Prior to leaving I only fertilized a couple times with consumer fertilizer (blasphemy, I know), and they received nothing during the majority of the flowering stage. I got home to some seriously variable plants, but all look better than last time around (got only one super-spindly larf-baby this time, whereas nearly all plants last time were airy).

Anyway, pictures are below of the four plants I care about, and I’m trying to decide what to do. Pretty sure I’m too far along to feed them some blooming nutrients, but if anyone thinks differently I’d love to hear it.

  • P1 has some minor cat-turds evident, but otherwise looks ok.
  • P2 (gonna call this one Orange Julius) has a fat cola mostly around the stalk, found one cat-worm-looking thing this morning, but otherwise looks quite good. I sprayed both 1 & 2 with Jack’s DB this morning.
  • P3 has some gorgeous purple pistils (not much aroma) and is showing some yellowing leaves with brown margins, not sure why, but also looks genrally ok.
  • P4 is a bit spindly and perhaps a bit behind.
  • P5 is very spindly (it gets less sun), and will have to be left in the ground longer than all the others; don’t care about this one, nor the little guy planted next to it (no pics).

I’ve done a lot of reading here about timing harvesting, but still would like some expert opinions on 4 plants. Looks to me they are getting close-ish, and it appears the CO weather will be 60-70s for the next ten days, with lows in the low 40s to low 50s, so no impending reasons to chop ‘early’.

Thoughts on how these are coming along? I definitely want to let these go a bit longer than my last grow, as I mostly take part late and night prior to sleeping, and the heady stuff from '21 is not optimal for that. I also need to figure out how to slow down the dry, as last time it was only 2-3 days before I had to bag; CO humidity is not optimal for this, and my basement dry area is storage (full of cardboard boxes), so it’s quite hard to get anywhere near the desired RH during drying. I’m going to put the humidifier in there in advance so that the boxes don’t soak it all up while I’m starting to dry (room currently hangs in the low 30s RH).

Any help is greatly appreciated, and once again thanks to this community for being such a great resource!

Plant 2 looks close, but the others need a couple weeks or more. Wait until all or most of those white pistols turn orange before worrying about tricomes. Looking good :+1:

Unfortunately some strains pistils don’t turn amber before the trichromes are done. I have seen lots of stains do this. The tried and true is looking at the trichs.

Thanks for the input!

Anyone else have any thoughts on feeding? Too late, I assume?

Hmm They look good! The burnt brown twiseled tips are nute burn…But if you do a H20 only watering for one or two you’ll be back in the saddle …these puppies are very thin and sparse…but that’s not to say you cant get some quality smoke from what you got… you wont get the quantity you may want but that doesn’t mean you wont get the quality…They look like some good buds…good luck!

Thanks for the info! Before I departed on vacation all leaves were dark green, so I found it odd that only a few leaves on a single plant would have done this while the plants were unattended for 3 weeks. It is starting to get colder at night, and some of the other plants now have a yellow leaf or two (I assume they should be removed as they get mostly yellow?).

These plants were grown from the same seed as 2021’s grow, and some show the same characteristics (super-spindly for one or two plants, fruity aroma for two plants, and very orange pistils on one plant). I don’t have an optimum grow environment and my wife is not a big fan of my having a few plants near our garden, but I love watching the grow cycle, especially the fragrances as flowering progresses.

Assuming we’ll have no cold weather in the next two weeks (prior to harvest), do you think it’s too late to add some bloom nutrients right now? I’d love for these buds to fatten up a bit before I have to take them.

Anyway, thanks for the input.

Yeah its normal for the plants to get yellow leaves during flower stage near the end of harvest…I wouldn’t remove them unless they’re diseased…Like I said they look like they’ll be pretty good smoke.
