am a beginner-ish. I just switched from using hps to led. Found a 300 watt led and like it. Am using soil I’m trying to make her a mother. Got a BD F5 seed from www.ilovemarijuana.com and am having great success. My issue is that the leaves at the tips are yellowing and the perimeter of the fan leaves are curling?!?!?! Am using the general hydro neutrient line filling the chart. Moved light up think I had the light too close and underestimated the PAR of the led.
Please help.If you can fill out this support ticket to the best of your abilities we’ll start to diagnose your plant!

Blue dream f5 from ilgm.com
Soil in pots
PH in resivoir is 6.8
Idk ec or tds am using the general hydroponics flora line
Indoor tent
300w led
53% humidity
84 degrees.
Oscillating fan open tent every now and then
No co2
Can put small baby humidifier in tent if need be
What is the distance between the plant and the light? Even though when leds do not emit too much heat, they can light burn your plant. It happened to me in my first grow.
About 2ft now. Was 15-18 inches at first. But I think that was one of my issues
Try let’s say 35 inches and test your way down till you find a good spot. I had the same issue when I tried to lower from 25 to 20 inches. Don’t worry they will recover soon.
Should I cut off the boat leaves? Or just leave them
I’d cut just the yellow tips and wait to see if she heals in 24 hours. How ikd is she?

It sounds like there are 3 issues here:
(1) You said the pH of the resevoir is 6.8. It Looks like you are top feeding from the resevoir. That being the case, 6.8 is too high. I would lower the pH of your resevoir to 6.3 - 6.4.
(2) You don’t know the ppm or EC of your nutrient solution. I would recommend getting a TDS meter. You can pick one up from Amazon for less than $20. This way you will know the strength of your nutrient solution to determine if you are over or under feeding.
(3) The lights were definitely too close.
Here’s a chart for LED lights (Courtesy of @Niala). The chart is for equivalent watt, so if your LED light is 300W follow the chart for it, it’s not made for actual or real draw. Also, these are approximations, so use this chart as a starting guide and adjust if necessary.
120 W to 180W ~1.5 feet
180W to 300W ~2.0 feet
300W to 600W ~2.5 feet
600W to 1200W ~3.0 feet
1200W to 2000W ~3.5 feet
Hope this helps!
Also, the curling (or “tacoing”) of the leaves is a sign of heat stress. This could be a result of the lights being too close. I would keep an eye on them now that the lights have been raised. You may still need to lower the temps in your grow space by 3 - 4°. Finally, if your temps rise any more (i.e. are regularly 85° or higher), you’ll want to start supplementing Co2.
Nailed it @GrowManFitz!
And what will the co2 do?
Once I get tds meter. What do I want it to read?
@Tdave1211 Supplementing with Co2 makes your plants more resistant to heat and light stress. If the plant is receiving more light than it can naturally use, supplementing with Co2 will help the plant to use more of the light, thereby increasing photosynthesis.
You’ll need to refer to General Hydroponics feeding chart for the Flora line. I use Rx Green Solutions, so I don’t know what type readings should be for your nutes.
I use GH Flora line, your PPMs should be between 600-1400, depending on what phase of growth you’re in. Do you have the feeding chart for GH?
I think so. The chart on back of bottles?
I used less cal mag than advised and got MAJOR nute burn, now a couple plants seem to be yellowed 24/7… not sure if it’s nute burn or what… confusing. Good luck anyway and always use 1/4 or less I say
Hi!!! @Tdave1211 , welcome to ILGM forum . … You have great tips from @GrowManFitz (thanks for the references GrowManFitz
) @Cocinero and @ktreez420 …
One thing, that, I think is imperative that you have a look for… is your fan tower… from the deduction I can made from your pictures, your lower foliage problem is most probably related to it.
Things you have to take in consideration when try to make air circulation, espacelly in a tight close environnement like a tent is :
-
Do not ever have direct blow to plant it self…espacelly from bellow… by doing so, even if it oscillates, it produce a drop off the humidity level at the base of your plant… a up vortex from down bellow…
-
So, all the humidity is “sucks up” and create a micro climate at the ground level and that’s most probably why your lower foliage seems to be suffering of dryness or are in drought situation… Even an overall RH of 55% is likely to be much under the 30% of RH at the lower foliage level and it’s likely to cause the stomata (tiny little holes under the leaves) to close in an attempt to keep humidity in…
-
And that will, most probably, lead to other problems like; pH issues (up and down); nutrients lock out and deficiencies and mold and fungus problems…
-
Then… please, always keep your fan just above the canopy (the top of your plant) That’s “indoor gardening 101”…
Hoping that’s helping you @Tdave1211,
~Al
