My Organic Grow Journal

I really like the COM seedling starter for my clone cuttings, I do add extra perlite to the mix and when I’m planting I go thru and make sure any big twigs are broken down.

@J.Gro what’s your main medium? I’m just curious on other’s experiences with either soil that I used. Whether it was because of the cultivar I used or if it’s common issues that go along with each company. Or it could have just been straight user error. If anything it’s a mixture of all the above.

I use the Coast of Maine Stonington blend, or I guess they’re calling it platinum growers mix, anyway that’s what I’ve used the last couple of years in pots on my deck, in May/June I started my first indoor with it. I reused last years outdoor soil 50/50 with new and added in extra perlite, lobster meal and Stonington plant food when I transplanted out of the seedling soil, with added Dynomichro root innoculant. I like to use 50/50 fresh and old soil for veg transplants and I started using soil from after harvest, amended with kelp, alfalfa, lobster meal, fish bone meal, worm castings, Stonington plant food, coffee grounds for final transplant before flower, I’m trying this recipe out while I sit on 40lbs of new soil to see how it works out and compare results. Of course my little experiment didn’t account for winter temps so hard to tell if issues are temp or mute deficiencies. I really like building my own soil, but I like cooking, baking and tinkering with things so I get recycling soil isn’t for everyone. Tonight I’m trying a new experiment lol, I found these expired Airborne vitamin C tabs in the cabinet and thought what would happen if I gave this to one of the plants, so I dissolved one in a gallon of water, had to pH it up a little with baking soda but I’m gonna try it on a few and see what happens lol. Tried finding info on the Google if anyones ever tried it before but only found one article about using expired vitamins in your garden and compost piles so we might be making history tonight, good bad or ugly I’ll keep you posted lol :seedling::joy:

@J.Gro I completely understand about the tinkering I’m the same exact way. Sometimes I think it’s more harm than good but can help myself. I’d definitely like to see how that turns out with the vitamin c tablets. I know @MeEasy uses it to clean the chlorine and chloramines out of tap.

I know a few people that use vitamin C tablets to neutralize the chlorine n chloramine that’s what gave me the idea to use it, I use powder ascorbic acid it works great and it does lower the ph but my water ph was a little high to start with so it works out. I don’t ph my water except when I change where I get it I like to make sure it’s not crazy bad

Thanks for the info, I didn’t realize the absorbing acid would lower the ph And I had already lowered mine to 6.5 with the app cid vinegar. I fill water gallon jugs and let them sit out for a few days to dechlorinate but the ph raises as it sits so by the time I go to water it’s 8.5 sometimes over 9, 1.5 tspn per gallon gets me to 6.5-6.7… anyway… so I could be crazy, but I watered with the airborne half an hour ago, just on 3 plants, 2 that are in veg and 1that was flipped 10/7, and I’m telling ya they look perkier, I don’t know, could be the Girl Scout cookie I just smoked but they just look ready for the night life tonight :dancer:t2::joy: They could be dead in the morning so jury still out

I love it! Here’s the article that had the info about using the expired vitamins, funny, I missed this part at the very end the first time reading it, guess I stopped reading after the vitamin part but get this…it says to use expired viagra for cut flowers, no droop to your stems! Haha I’m not making this up, here’s the link

End of week seven update. Figured I get a head start while my tablet charges. Boy do I feel pretty bummed. If Rasta colored leaves were a good thing I’d be golden. I definitely burnt the hellout of the one plant. And I think it’s messing things up. I watered two nights ago and attempted to water it out as best I could. I ran almost four gallons of distilled through the heavily burnt plant until I got the ppm down to around 1000. But the buds do seem to be slowly bulking and filling in.
I just hope I didn’t foxtail my buds too bad and they will fill in a little more.
What’s your guys opinion? I’m gonna upload some scope pictures shortly. Top end of the buds definitely are mostly amber lower buds are still mostly clear to milky. What do guys and gals think. I know I’m getting close. But I’m pretty sure I’m only this close because of my faults. We live and learn. I’m half tempted to just Lollipop everything and give them about ten more days and do the deed. Really looking for the restart.

@Hellraiser do you think I foxtailed them or do I still have a shot?

I have not tried it myself, but others have done selective harvesting of the buds ready on top and let the others mature longer.

Looking good very nice colours coming through

Yea I’ve heard of that as well. I think it’s just asking for issues though. I just got done scoping around. The very tops of the buds are turning amber. But the majority is milky to white I believe. I’m definitely looking for more
Amber as I mostly need for pain relief and sleep assistance versus the head high which rarely mixes well with me.

Looks great, don’t see any foxtailing.

@Hellraiser how much longer you think I’m your experience? The soil was definitely locked out. But I flushed and brought both plants down to under 1000. I figured they both need to dry out. And really don’t know how to proceed with feeding. Or should I just water only with molasses and some mammoth p to finish out.

Looks mostly cloudy with some clears. I’d go another week minimum. If they were mine, I probably go 2 weeks as I like to see some amber, not much but some.

Since I’m stuck home with rona. I took some time to defoliate the leaves that were burnt and damaged. In doing so I noticed a main branch starting to split so I’m staking away all the branches. Some are starting to lean into each other and like I said one was starting to split.

I also noticed the main trunk is starting to split as well. No bueno.
