@Storm Thinking I will just move the humidifier to the veg tent and maybe not bother with a second humidifier once the flower tent is an actual flower tent since I keep the lung room at a good flowering RH. You got me thinking myself into a better more affordable setup. I’ll put the clone dome on top of the above tent and keep bonsai mothers in the bottom in 1 gal pots with the AC Infinity 16 inch cloning lights. I also found these diatemous earth saucers that absorb water which I’m going to try. I don’t think they’d be great normally, but with intentional minimum feeds and light watering for the method I’m following, I think they’ll be great.
It evolved pretty quick but I really like where it ended up and it’s a lower cost option. I keep the lung room pretty stable but not optimal growing conditions. Turns out that’s optimal bonsai clone mother conditions though because you want slow large growth that forces small exploratory growths. That’s all just from talking with folks on here and a little of my own theory mixed in so we’ll see. Hopefully I don’t sacrifice my first clones to science, but I wouldn’t be a man of science if I didn’t try. By man of science I mean crazy hillbilly with a smoking problem… The problem is I keep smoking until it’s gone.
Yeah plus this takes my downtime running cost from full tent kit down to souped up propagation kit no venting. My wife would thank you but I’m definitely going to take credit for that one.
Well don’t tell her that though, I like my shelf of gear. She’s a Marine Veteran so she tried to get me to grow them outside on the state land. Why use any of our resources.
Thank her for her service. My Son got home last night. A Chief on the Roosevelt. Hanging with him at his airbnb here. LONG assed deployment. 281 days at sea.
Everybody’s trimmed and trained. While pruning I found a few colas that formed in triples and quadruples on Flora. Tried to get photos but it was hard to get an angle that showed them all. Liked it up and she’s partly trifoliate. Pretty stoked about her genetics and glad I’m setting up a means of maintaining them long term.
Saw a little yellowing on the clones leaves yesterday and read it could be nutrients or light. Tried upping the light to max and giving a very light 100 ppm feed. Fed just enough to wet the cube so a shot glass or less. Yellowing got slightly worse, so thinking it was too much extra light and dialed it back down. Was considering going even lower with the light, but really hope they’re rooting by now and know they’ll need more once they are rooted. I think I’ll do another feed at around 200 tonight or tomorrow morning.
“Pollywog”, Shipmate.
Have no clue about subs, or Coast-Guard.
USN-Air Community (AT, E2-C, F-14D, S-3, E2-D, A6, and EA6B),
Rode CVs and CVNs for crossing the line ceremonies (Shellback x many times and once did the Ditch). Retired instead of “learning” EA18G Countermeasures.
Was checking out the clones a little more because of the yellowing and poked then out of the tray to check for roots. Only a few showing in most, but realized I accidentally pushed one stem all the way through the cube. Not sure but I think this can maybe cause issues as I’m hardening off, so I up potted to the Budcups and gave them about 200 mL of a 500 ppm 700 scale feed. I was shooting for 300 but this was the full feed recommended for cuttings and the recommended rates have been pretty on point. It was about a 0.25 ml/L difference in dose I’m estimating based on my first feed if I need to go lower for the next.
Both of the main girls are looking happy. Flora is taking more of the shape I want but Evie is filling out nicely and at a lower height which I appreciate for indoors.
May try to make one clone mother for each instead of simply making double of Flora for backup. Can always pick up another clone of either but the current clone set has 3 naturally formed trifoliate which align well with the training for the method I’m following. Did find a could of gnats in the clone dome. I’ve been seeing around the house so guessing they got in from outside but was thinking about treating the top of my stored promix HP soil with neem oil. Pretty new to soil storage in general, what extra maintenance steps do y’all take when storing soil?
All the new gear and rent arrive today. Pretty excited to get it all setup and ready. There’s a few more limbs ready for cloning on the main plants I plan to pull during pruning this week and need to get the other clones out of the clone dome.
