Coco coir can be used repeatedly (after thorough rinse and root removal), but soil is exhausted after a single cycle. My wife has a hydro setup like the one you pictured, but just uses it for herbs. Stuff that only gets about 8-12 inches and constantly gets cut back and kept from flowering. This setup would probably be good for cloning, but I’d be worried about root damage when moving to a bigger “home”.
@Lenardt I would suggest no longer than 24 hours. Then put it between very moist paper towel and cover it some how, I use a small ceramic bowl. Find a warm, not hot, place to put it. The warmth is the key. I have been placing mine on a lampshade above a small compact fluorescent bulb. I also used my computer and that worked well.
After that, watch it. Most likely within 48hrs it will sprout a little tail. As soon as that tail comes out (1/8") you can plant it. Put it in just deep enough so you can cover it with soil, about 3/16" deep. Try to have the tail pointing down or at least horizontal. Be very careful not to break the tail off.
I would also suggest you put it in a small pot, I use 16 oz cups. Don’t put it in a large pot. Pre moisten the soil just enough so you can feel the moisture. It should definitely not be wet. Put about a teaspoon of water right over where you planted the seed and cover it with some type of clear dome (soda or water bottles cut in half work well). Keep it warm. She will likely pop through the soil within 48 hrs. Keep her in the dome until the cotyledons open.
There are a million opinions on the subject. Me personally I leave it in the warm water until the tail develops and then right into the soil! @Lenardt I’ve never had a failure doing it that way. The key is to keep that cup in a warm dark place. I put my cup in a bowl on top of the cable box. I also put a sandwich bag over the cup to help keep the heat in. 78 degrees plus or minus is fine.
If you want to use the paper towel method then I’d do it between 24-48 hours.
IMO it is just an opportunity to damage the seed by handling it too much.
Should I plant it or wait another 6-12 hours @bob31
Yes, wait the 6-12 hours. You want the tail a little longer! @Lenardt
I’ve waited until the tail was a little longer. Planted the seed early this morning. Forgot to take a pic of it. I’m growing one in the autogarden and one in soil. I’ll keep you guys updated on them. Their both 1024 fem plants.
@bob31 hey I got the mars hydro light along with the nutrients today, I’ve hooked up the light but how do I mix the nutrients.
What did you get for nutrients? @Lenardt
@bob31 I’ve got the flower power
Here is the feeding schedule for soil
You would add that amount to a liter of water. @Lenardt
I forget where you are located @Lenardt (Don’t be too specific) the continent is fine
I’m from way up north of North America, there’s already three feet of snow here. Right on the tree line of the tundra land and boreal forest. @bob31
Here’s an update picture of what I have going right now. One in the areogarden IMG_4635|374x500
@bob31They both look great @Lenardt
Is that normal to have that much snow in November?
This year there is a lot of snow, and yeah it’s normal for snow to be on the ground before holloween. But this year we have a lot more than usual. @bob31
Nice, i think you are the farthest to the North of Anyone on here currently, that I am aware of. Pretty Cool. I’m a more warm client person myself but sometimes you are where you are! @Lenardt
For sure! It’s getting colder everyday. Soon it will be 50 below outside. As a first time grower I’m loving it. And still learning a lot. I’m waiting on some more planting pots. I’ve got to order most of my stuff online because I live in a isolated community where you can only get in and out by air, or winter road which won’t be open until January. @bob31
I forgot about the folks in Alaska!
Your plant looks great @Lenardt
Only -13c here this morning too cold to snow 0- -6c may get some decent snow but at about -10c there is no moisture left in the air one of the main reasons I moved North no more moist cold to make me sore just my own stupidity lmao
