My first attempt at DIY Light

Hi everyone,

I am getting ready to make my own light. I have read the posts on this forum and think I might be headed in the right direction, but as a newbie I don’t want make any mistakes.

I am getting ready to purchase the following:

(10) BXEB-L0560Z-35E2000-C-B3 strips
(1) HLG-185H-C700A driver.

Is that the correct driver for that amount of strips? Each strip has a forward voltage of 19.5v, so 19.5 x 10 = 195 volts. I figure I can add 4 more strips in the future if i need more light using this driver.

Would this produce enough light for a 2x4 tent?

The numbers work. But if I’m right that’ll only work out to around 136 watts. I personally would say that’s not enough for a 4x2 but wait to see what @dbrn32 says since I make no guarantees on my math lol.

Looks right to me. I agree a little weak by itself in a 2x4, so design your fixture to incorporate those other strips later.

If I add the 4 extra strips, would that be enough for my 4x2 or would i need more?

For budget reasons, I am going to get 10 of these strips with the driver to start with, but I will make my fixture so it can hold a total of 28. I will also get another HLG-185H-C700A driver when I get above 14 strips.

Thanks to everyone. @dbrn32 @DoobieNoobie @SilentHippie @elheffe702

It would still be a little weak, but you can run a nice grow with it.

The plan is sound but my suggestion is if you can only afford the one light with 10 strips right now would be to only grow one plant. You can put two but they’ll both suffer from weak lighting. You could grow one plant pretty well off that light. Then as you can afford to you add the lights to the other half of the tent and next grow you’re off with 2 plants well covered. And if you build the lights right and you decide to expand later they can move into a bigger area and double the lights again for a 4x4.
