Mh GPS bulb efficiency?

Knowledge of these kinds of lights efficiency? Not worried about the power build just the growing potential? I have a 8ft-4ft-8ft tent and everything else figured out but affordable lighting where I am is quite unavailable -_- my $ isnt worth very much atm thoughts? I’m thinking 8 lights 8 plants?

A 400 watt HPS is not nearly enough light for a 4x8, in the HPS world, you would ideally use 2 600 watt HPS lights as each is good for a 4x4 area. If sticking with 400 watt HPS, yes 8 of them would work.

Yes, that would work.

But 4 600w are better? I thought if I hang a 400 above them all it would yield awesome? Is 8x600w too much?

It’'s more than needed for good yields and bud denisty. A 600 watt hps does a great job on 4x4 area so only 2 needed for 8x4. extra light is nice but kinda wasted unless supplementing CO2.

Will be generating my own co2 with a homemade yeast sugar genny

600 watt HPS bulbs are the most energy efficient of the HPS family so best to go with a number of them when possible. I could see using three of them of them in a 4x8 for some extra lighting and try to bump up yields a bit.

Realistic yield estimate on a well researched first time indoor grower? Just to throw the curveballs question.

Soil. Organic first culture.
Big bud chocolope and amnesia have mix (high yield MPack)
Will be topping and lst to a hopefully full scrog

I pull a pound and a half off a 600 watt HPS regularly, so even if not hitting all the marks but no big problems and using a good yielding strain, could easily get a pound per 600 watt HPS and more with experience and heavy yielders.

I used three 600w MH in my 4x8 and lifted around 1 1/2 lbs from 5 photos. I felt two wasn’t enough and 3 was almost too much. The heat issues you will get running eight 600w lights in there will be off the scale. My humidity was always an issue running 3. I know you can kill the heat with fans, air con and eight 600w lights all running will destroy your humidity and be a shocker of an electric bill. It will send the meter into overdrive

Yeah.once you have to run so much air to control temps, goodbye to humidity, my grows are usually done under 30RH as I live in the desert and move a lot of air for cooling.

Yep, I found I struggled to get my RH above 30 as well. Not a problem with the qb260s though. HID ighting is good but it’s hot and power hungry :sunglasses:. A pound per 600w is a tidy tidy bit of growing.

I’ve been pretty dialed in for years so maximizing yields has been my thing with some nice heavy yielding strains.

I also just changed my flowering tent today from 600 watt hps to a hlg 550 v2 rspec and exhaust less than half of what I used to do and humidity has already climbed to 35RH. LED is the way, no doubt and loving those quantum boards.

I’ve just swapped out 3 HPS for two qb260s with another two 260s on order and my humidity sits around 45-50. Best move I have ever made. I’ve kept one air cooled HPS until the second set of 260s get here. What do you use for PK during flowering? I’m using canna 13/15 but feel I need more. Big fan of the quantum boards as well

I use the Advanced Nutrients Connoisseur base and all their lineup so start with the bud ignitor, then move on to big bud, then finish up with overdrive. Very happy with AN nutes.

Just looking at their lineup just now. Going to make the switch on the next grow as I feel I’ve reached the limit with my current nutes and want to do better

@dbrn32 all set. My 260s are all set up and looking good. My NL is in full flower just now. Think she must be in week 2 or thereabouts. I have my NL auto, AK47 and my purple wreck under there. My clones and seedlings are on the other side of my tent under the HPS. Just looking at scrog just now. Not done that before so going to give it a try and see how it goes. I have a journal going just now with it all in there

@Tjay0125 should’ve said this at the start. Welcome to the forum, great bunch of people on here with heaps of knowledge and generous with it. You will like it here, really active and on the ball. Good luck with your grow :sunglasses:
@dbrn32 I hear you now. Misunderstood you earlier :upside_down_face::see_no_evil:
