MeEasy what is going on now (Part 2)

I was not real pleased with the sponges, both seeds and clones rotted. The damn things are always wet, never dry.

As soon as that seed coat cracks, the embryo requires a huge amount of oxygen. The cubes, IMHO, create anaerobic conditions.

I have been using the hydroxide/water bath until I see the seeds crack and then stick them in a paper towel, place a ziplock until tail gets a little length and plant in a dixie cup with ventilation.

I just use Jiffy peat pellets. Soak them until they are fully expanded then squeeze as much water out as you can, slice it open and place the seedling (or seed) in there and close it back up. I place that plug into a solo cup soil like this:

This is the grow light I use for seedlings.

I’ve only had to use a humidity dome 2 times when the seedlings looked to be struggling but I don’t leave it on too long.

There are so many ways that people have success with seedlings. This is just mine.

I believe those babies got way to much humidity. I rarely use a dome on my babies. In the winter I will use it but leave a large opening at the bottom. In the winter our humidity is like 10% in the house.

I use rapid rooters they look like the ones you are using. I soak em in a peroxide water mix overnight give em a good squeeze to get out some of the water cut or tear em open a little on top to put the tadpoles in them. Then water every few days once they start to turn from black to brown. 6-10 days later they go directly into their forever pots.

I use a heating pad. Just remember the pads are preset to 10° above room temperature so if your room is 75° your pad will be 85° and that’s a little to hot IMO. They do have adjustable temp pads, I’ve never tried one so can’t tell you how well they work.

And as I always say. Right or wrong this is my way not the right way. Look around and you will find the way that works best for you

Edit = that seed looks pretty deep in that picture, I have best luck putting the seeds about as deep as the seed itself or twice the width of the seed

Went to local grow store a year ago bought soil told them my success rate bought that fluorescent tube grow light was using that HLG in the background to pop seeds for year 1/2. I dropped $500 at ILGM first year in seeds buying the buy 10 get 10. free say 100 seeds got 12 -15 plants total. LOL. How dumb was that.

I drop seeds in shot glass 25% peroxide same ratio I can use to soak the seed cubes ? Ok to use tap water till transplanted ?

Thanks for all the photos everyone helps . I am a visual learner. Cali and Pogue

You all the Deion Sanders for growing -not talking about his Prime Time years his current football career.

Thanks

Feel like I am dumbing your forum down too much.

No one is dumbing anything down, popping seeds is a pain I am always trying different things to make it easier and I normally just make it harder on myself. I honestly think my biggest problem is I have no patience and I start focking with the seeds trying to make sure they are growing. When I’m busy and end up ignoring them I always get a higher percentage  I just bought that seed sprouter dome like a year ago trying something new and quit using it a couple grows back because my percentage actually went down. We all make expensive mistakes and we just have to learn from them.

Been misting closed dome and sponges daily and seed 3/8” deep.

I honestly think it’s the dome holding you back. Unless it is really dry where you have them. My house stays like 50-65% because we use evaporative coolers down here in the desert. That’s why it’s so dry in the winter when we are not running the coolers. Outside it’s pretty much 5-20% most of the time

I agree about the dome. We don’t have super high humidity here wither… between 15-35% unless it’s raining. Just think how you’d feel stuck in that dome… no fresh air… it’s not normal for a plant in nature and I know a LOT of people use them but I recommend trying a few without it and see how they do compared to the ones in the dome. Give them a light breeze so they wiggle around and help strengthen their stems.

I also live in a very dry climate. So far, my best success with doming is doing so in the seedlings’ first couple of days. After that, they start to collect condensation on their leaves and then get a bit burned on the edges.

Plus, I keep feeling like one of these days during a water-spritzing session I’ll accidentally drop a dome on a plant baby, oh no no. :seedling: :baby:

I’ve never had a seedling become ill or die due to dry air, but maybe someday, lol. :person_shrugging:

Week 7 update

The girls are just about ready for the 12s  I did a pretty heavy all Blooms feeding on Sat and trimmed up the bottoms a little bit so I don’t have to take so much off all at once when I nearly lollipop them on the day I switch to flower. It’s a little hard on my OCD to wait because I normally switch my plants now but I’m forcing myself to let them go a little bit longer this round. Again I almost forgot to say that I increased the light intensity from around 35 to 45 mol DLI
Thanks for stopping by the growroom to watch em grow

Week 8 update … day 1 of 12s

Here we grow… I stripped the girls down yesterday and switch them over to a 12/12 schedule then today I dropped the lights down to 22" from the canopy which gets them to about 950-1000 ppfd

Unless dated different these pictures are from yesterday

Forgot to take a before trim, oops :grimacing:

TRIM Before n After

Check out the leaves on this one

I know there is a name for this. It’s a little hard to see but a lot of the leaves are two different colors. I’ve had other plants do this but never this bad. The plant has looked a little sad throughout but is growing and drinking just like the others.

@LoudDream Here’s a couple extra pictures showing my method of trimming before the switch to 12s.

I like to draw an imaginary line where I strip everything from each branch then the next node I’ll take off the branches and leave the leaves. Like every rule there will be exceptions that you just have to make a judgment call. Remember that you can always remove more but you can never put anything back.
Also some plants will need some of the bigger fans taken off randomly to help with the moisture that accumulates between any stacked leaves. Moisture invites mold.
Finally I’ll supercrop any tall branches, this kinda slows them down in hopes of the other branches will catch up. This picture actually show some scarring on the branch from bending it a couple times

Thank for the update - amazing how flat the top grows. Think I got the seed popping thing goin. You were right - I was over watering. See if I can experiment with couple of them.

Are you doing Roadside 1/2 dose every two weeks ?

Damn shame 49’s player shot - he was lucky

Thanks Easy

Thanks buddy, yeah, overwatering is the easiest thing to mess up. I’ve been guilty many times and it’s not gone because I’ve been doing this for years  I still get a little heavy handed with the water from time to time

I’m still playing with the Roadside food. I haven’t figured out a schedule yet or if changing the schedule is going to make a difference. This time I fed the dirt veg heavily before the grow. At about 5 weeks I did a 50/50 veg/bloom to make sure they had enough veg to get through the stretch and allow the soil to get the flower food ready for the plants to flower. I still did another full (3/4 tbs per gallon of soil) bloom feeding one week before I switched the lights to 12s. I’ll be feeding them again in three weeks which should take them to the chop. Some longer flowering plants will get another small feeding like a scoop or two each just to make sure they don’t get hungry. I don’t do the tea thing. If you do the plants probably won’t need the extra feeding, or a heavy feeding in the middle of flower.

I saw he got shot. A kid shot him over his watch. Luckily he’s okay :+1: Niners are having some issues already with injuries and contracts. Hopefully they get it together quickly… GO NINERS!!!
