Sorry to hear this but your are still here and absolutey one tough bird, you will be around this trap for a spell and then some, I am a “63” libra born baby,
one heart attack
I ain’t going nowhere brother!
I, for one, am glad.
So a cubic yard is basically 3 ft long 3 ft wide 3 ft deep 3 ft high am I correct on that?
Landscape fabric would be fine, though I’m not sure that is necessary even. You may be able lay down the fill and just cover with soil. I’m not seeing the benefit under 12-20’ of soil. You do likely need to plan for proper drainage.
You are correct
So if I build the box is 2 ft tall that would be sufficient for drainage?
for drainage, add a layer of gravel, rock. or in your case wood. add some sections of drain pipe around perimeter of box through cut outs in box. This is one way. You could also leave gaps between slats to allow some drainage. My concern is that the clay may cause backup and retention of water in the bed.
I’ll definitely come up with a solution for better drainage but I definitely understand your concern on the buildup for the clay and retention of water
Good Flow!
Ur back will thank you for doing the raised beds.
I put 2-3layers of cardboard underneath my raised bed then built ontop of the cardboard. I have horrible experiences with the landscaping fabric. Aka its been useless ![]()
Good idea I can see cardboard definitely useful. I got tons of access to that
Dang…I’m looking forward too seeing it come September. Then we can start planning the vineyard and orchard.
Okay so it was too cloudy for the Eclipse and the Rapture didn’t happen… but I did find this adorable little plant right when the total Eclipse was supposed to happen. Do you think it would grow in your new garden? ![]()
First off, thanks to each and everyone of you who took the time out today with all your suggestions and everything for the growing area. I’ll definitely be going with the boxes and I’ll start building an assembling etc over the weekend.
I’d like to move on to part B of my questions on this venture. Seeds
With the Last Frost coming potentially around April 30th I’m assuming I would be planting everything outside in the first week of May
This leads me to the question do I germinate seeds or do I simply go buy them already grown?
Tent is occupied right now with the Green Giant the light is approximately 6 and 1/2 ft from the floor at 75% the temperature inside the tent is 75° the humidity is 45%
I’m assuming the light distance, the temperature, and the humidity are all insufficient for attempting to germinate the seeds am I correct?
Unfortunately, in all fairness to the Green Giant there is no potential fluctuation of anything inside the tent.
We germniate, plant in solos, up pot 1 gallon then the forever home, while grownin we keep the lil ones in front of slider, until warm days set out to harden up a bit then progress to all outside, kinda sounds like growing smoke, you got this Notlostgirl, mis guided but not lost hehehe!
There are some veggies that you should start now like melons, tomatoes, peppers. You can plant lettuce in the garden as soon as soil is prepared. The real question is what do you want in your garden? You can also start marigolds and herbs now inside, they look good and repel certain pests.
I’ll try to get a specific as possible here. This is what I have confirmed that I want to do.
Watermelon, green peppers, sweet potato, tomato, cucumber, squash.
That’s enough to keep it simple.
I have the existing box in the garden as you see in the above picture I’m going to build two more of them. Should I section the boxes off.
Example: should I build the box and then put two dividers in it so it’s four individual spaces to prevent root tangling of different produce
you can grow a Three Sisters Garden. What the natives grew: corn, squash, and beans.
Should watermelon be grown in the ground along my fence rather than in a box as if I remember correctly these are long viny things
