Hey all,
For the past three years I’ve been starting plants inside then in June, moving them outside to finish.
I’d really like to get a true indoor grow started but I’m undecided about a few things, honestly I’m undecided about almost everything lol
I’m thinking about getting two tents, a 4 x 2 for veg using my hydrofarm agrobrite flt48 T5, and a 4 x 4 for flowering. I’ve been looking at the HLG lights but I’m not sure which would work best for flowering in that size tent. Eventually I’d be getting a HLG for the veg tent, again I don’t know which light to veg a 4x2.
I’d like to do hydro, I have the time at home to give them all the attention they’d need.
Again I don’t know where to start with hydro. Ideally, I like a system that isn’t too complicated to get started or overly expensive to get into.
I’d love to get some detailed feedback so I can slowly formulate a plan, and piece this together.
Thanks for reading, and the time.
The consensus around here is the 2 HLG 260 XL R specs are the way to go for lighting a 4x4. You could also use a third HLG 260 XL R spec to light your 4x2 veg tent, a cool thousand dollars in lights that will take you a long way, lack of light will never be your problem. Not a hydro guy so will leave that for others.
The R spec is the one that does both veg and flower? What if I wanted dedicated lights for each phase, still R’s?
Also, the 2 260’s would be better then 1 550, is that because I can spread the lights a bit to get better coverage?
Yes, R spec is for seed to harvest, There is a B spec made specially for veg but they don’t offer a 260 XL B spec kit for some reason. There is the 260 (non XL) B spec, which I have and is a great freaking light for veg, just that XL size is a better fit in a 4x2 but since they don’t make that kit, could build yourself though, buy the heatsink, boards and driver separately.
Here are my veg lights a HLG 135 and 260 B spec.
Yes, better spread with the 2 lights, specially in a 4x4. I have the 550 in a 3x3 and it’s perfect for that.
Ok, thank you! I’ll start squirreling away $ for those lol I’ll probably have to just start with the two. Maybe I’ll run just one tent at first to get a feel for the whole set up before having separate tents. Might save a few nickels.
Oh shit! That’s what I’m talkin about haha looks beautiful man.
Thanks, with indoor growing, the lights make all the difference, great lights gets you great buds and great yields.
Yeah I’ve been lurking reading all you guy’s stuff on lights. I just wasn’t sure if there was a specific light for veg and another for flower. Or if I should look at the combo.
That bottom pic, is that two 260 xl’s? They have blue and red with white?
Bottom pic is the HLG 550 R spec with a HLG 30 watt UVA add-on (the pretty blue lights in the middle of the light).
Oh ok, that’s a 3x3 tent?
Yes, I use 2 3x3 tents, one for veg and one for flowering, doing perpetual grows, harvest every 8-10 weeks.
That looks like a shit load of flowers, showed my wife and she’s like wow that looks crazy.
What do you average dry weight with that size setup?
Yeah that was 20 oz of buds I harvested a couple weeks ago.
I average 20-24 oz a harvest, that grow was only 3 plants and I usually do 4 and get closer to 24 oz. Pound and a half out of a 3x3 tent, every 8-10 weeks, who needs bigger tents?
No shit man, seems like you have that dialed in. You in organics?
Yeah I’ve been doing this a while, pretty dialed in. I use the Advanced Nutrients line now, have done organics in the past, used to do whole grows with just worm castings and seabird and bat guano.
That’s awesome man, we’ll I appreciate your time and sharing your knowledge with me.
No problem, happy growing!
