@dbrn32 hey it’s been a while since I’ve been on the site I have a question for you, i am currently in a 3x3 I have an HLG 600r that I use but I also have 2 spider farmer SE3000s that I hooked together to fit inside the 3x3… but with the spider farmer 3 of the light bars are about 2 inches higher that the other( not sure if that matters lol) and I’m able to have ballast outside of tent. Now which light would you use ?
For me it would really depend on the final height I have to work with. I’m in a 72" tent by ACI and I need those two inches. I have to super crop as it is and my lights are attached to the top bar. Two great sets of lights BTW.
600 watts in a 3x3? WOW impressive, how much DLI are you trying to achieve?
So the HLG says height above canopy is what 28” recommended, and the driver creates a lot of heat
The SE3000s I’m able to have the light anywhere from 6”-18”, I’m able to hang the drivers outside of the tent and it’s literally full coverage again the 3 light bars on the right are a little higher than the rest of the light bars again not sure if that even matters? I’m even able to hang my HLG uva in the middle of the spider farmer…
But I’ve had great yields with the HLG !!!
I am growing in a gorilla tent so it’s a 6”11.
DLI not to sure what that means I know I don’t want any light burn though
Very good point. That is one of the reasons I am considering upgrading to the SF SE4500 myself. The heat from the ACI lights is 120 degrees at the controllers.
Light burn rarely happens unless the light is so close that the heat from the light is reaching the plant. You would have to have the light within ~12 inches with poor airflow for that to happen.
This may be helpful:
I would probably run the 600r dimmed down if you dont have a bigger space for it.
Ths is a topic have been only guessing with on my first grow here. I have 3 HLG lights in m 4×4 gorilla tent. 300L Rspec, 200 Rspec and 320 FR Rspec. About 780 watts total. I am in flower and i have them all about 15 inches, give or take an inch, from the canopys. I am using DLI of about 40-50 and ppfd 800-1000. I have them dimmed down some.
Question is : should i have them cranked up high and lower them a few inches over using DLI. The leaves arent getting that hot with the HLG lights.??
DLI is the best gauge you can easily get to aim your lights, otherwise your just guessing (and every environment is different so advice from others has a significant margin of error to it)
Its an app on your phone and a number you relate to a graph… Fairly easy
Okay so I would need a par meter ? I was looking into a thread earlier and downloaded the photon app and read I had to put the piece of paper over front camera, then I saw a photobio by Phantom was fairly cheap for what it is compared to apogee.
The Photone app is the most accurate one out of them all. The paper diffuser over the camera lenz is only for Apple i phones not Android. If this helps.
Okay, i get all of this but, i only needed to find out how important it was to have your lights a certain height from the tops. Like their was a certain magic height to help them flower denser… but, it is all about DLI for me.
You don’t need a par meter, read my thread about DLI.
No
Flowers don’t care if your light is far aware or close, it only cares about DLI, VPD (this includes how hot the top colas are getting), Co2 concentration, wind/stress, nutrients, and whaf the genetic plan is telling it to do.
Refer to my modified DLI chart and just don’t bleach you lights by having them to closer and to powerful or to weak
Okay I will have some questions for you soon lol
@ArtVandelay
It’s best to read @Nicky post about DLI.
I’ve had 2 runs and still learning the DLI rule. This is my last run with a yield from two plants under a HLG 320 in a 3x5
17.5 oz
I also have the Photone app. Good luck and happy growing.
Nice density, I have definitely seen your grows greatly improve since you joined the forums. You yourself are now a wealth of knowledge.
Nice setup!
Just need some autopots =p
Got a par meter I’m currently at seedling week 1 DLI is currently 18… to much or to little ? Is there a chart that I should be going by?
Nicky offered up that info buddy
