Let's talk DIY lights

Why? He built a 2x2 light with 8

I was told 16 would be too many for a 4x4 tent, may get official word soon. I think I have too much in the 5x5 tent right but time will tell.

Yeah I could always keep them turned down a little.

Who said 16 would be too many, and why?

I am scrolling back looking for it.

I run my 4x8 in “section” of 2x4 so eventually I will have 3 2x4 sections going with some room to still get around.

16 is perfect for a 4x4. The reference design built by GG is using 8 strips in a 4x2 space. So 16 strips makes sense in a 4x4 to me. And 16 strips with 2 drivers(if you go the not so efficient route) is gonna be around 850 to 900 dollars. Depending on what deals you may find or what scraps you have laying around.

Please explain

Here I found where he said 2 of them with 8 each is a smidge too much.

I still don’t understand. Please break it down a little for an old redneck to understand

Well from one noob to another. You are running 8 of them at 1400ma instead of buying more and running them at 700ma. Dbrn will have to break that down lmao

Buying more what?

Strips. You can run 8 at their peak limits, so to speak at 1400ma. Or you could get 16, run them at half the power, save money, and achieve the same light. Whenever I was getting into this with dbrn we were talking about the eb gen2 strips. I’m not sure on exact numbers like he is.

Like I said, I’m just an old redneck, and wouldn’t have dared to attempt it without @dbrn32. He told me 2 drivers, which is the same thing GG said. I’ve still got 32 more strips and 4 more drivers sitting in the box. I’ve only built one light so far, and if @dbrn32 thinks I need to do the other ones different, I need to know before I get started on them

Burn you one. It will help you focus

For me, I’m not worried about being efficient in my 3x3 haha different story if I was running a room or something. So the 8 strips per driver was more appealing to me.
