Much appreciated!
Oh hell which birthday was it ? ILGM or your own? well @dbrn32 Happy Birthday !
What are your thoughts of a light like this?
Is is worth it for my 4x4 tent?
I thought mixing some of the photo boosts with the double f series samsung strips I use for lights would enhance it even more.
Just wondering what you think and I am wanting to build this one light with a total of 11 strips, two drivers, one for the 6 photo boosts and one for the 5 double rows.
Do you calculate out this being good lighting or not enough and need more strips? Much appreciated for your insight.
You would have to run a light like that kinda high to get coverage, but it would work. I would just tighten up spacing on strips close to edges a little. And I’m guessing that the intensity of Samsung strips would over take photoboost spectrum a little. So maybe would be better to mix some straight red strips with the Samsung strips, do all photoboost strips, or go with something like r-spec boards.
Missed this, okay sounds good. I will re evaluate this.
A change happened in my tent, water uptake just doubled (plants drooped bad)and i think I just had adjusted to full blast on the lights, just making sure I haven’t over lighted myself here on this grow. Might have to get some of those red strips. I seen a light someone built with them, have to look. Thank you @dbrn32
@imSICKkid built one with red strips, looks pretty sweet.
The strips from cutter are a really nice addition. The only complaint I see is the connectors on the board are on opposite sides. Which is great if its wired in series, not so much for parallel wiring. But overall they came out sweet. I’ll grab the link to them if you want. Cutter website is kind of a PIA to navigate
I think I donated money to the Red Cross once. Had I known it was going towards building a light I would have donated more!
@AAA Jbum’s Red Cross light is still taking donations! ![]()
Send by the lady in the white nurses uniform, I’ll throw some pesos in her can!
Hey thanks for that link @imSICKkid I appreciate that. I am getting anxious , need to get light together for my next drop. Did the guy from Cutter email to you? Did he say these are the ones to get? I see there are many options but the one I think is the one is this one:
Wide Red, 8 x XPE Deep Red(660nm), 4 x XPE Far Red(730nm), 3 Infra Red(840nm)
And I think that you had the question on the driver?
what driver did they say to use for those 4 red lights you have there?
Yeah he emailed me. Lemme copy and paste some stuff.
Oh you wired in parallel , does that make a difference in the driver size?
Alright, cool sounds good !
OK so 4 x 15 led 660 strips equates to 34v when run at 700ma, you can go to 1amp but you will need to beef up you heatsink
So
4 in series requires = 136v drive at 700ma. Possible Driver options ELG-100-C700B or SLM160W-1.0-160-ZA
4 in parallel requires 34v Drive @ 2800ma( divides into 4 for 700ma) ELG-100-36B or HLG-100H-36B
I went with the far red 660nm spectrum as I only plan on turning them on once flower starts.
Wiring in series is a safer method as it eliminates any chance of thermal runaway.
I do appreciate your help and I am leaning more toward photo boost. I haven’t dropped my new set of seeds yet, waiting for a certain one to come in the mail, then I am dropping ! But on another note, lets just say for hypothetical purposes you are given a brand new 4x4x72 grow tent. You are going to build a badazz light for it because you want the best. But you don’t want to blow the budget out of the water. So you do the photo boost, how many 24 inch strips would you use.
Or lets say you do some r-spec boards because they might be better and have the 660mn red light build in and 4 boards will get you up to the umol/j needed to be equal to your HPS lights.
Well, if we’re speaking hypothetically I would never buy a 4x4 tent lol. But that’s another story…
If it were me, I would build with photoboost strips at 700ma. Or wait for Samsung horticulture modules and build with them at 700ma. They may even be out, I’ve been really busy lately. Either case will likely be busted by budget constraints in a space like 4x4. So I’m not sure where that leaves you? 4 r-spec 288’s is probably cheaper than other options, but also won’t be as efficient.
16 photo boost strips and 2 320 drivers
Yeah I know a 4x4 is pretty small, and when I went with a 5x5 it was much bigger and like that tent a lot. I needed to stay small for environmental issues but who knows maybe the whole room or a 4x8 might be down the road. But in the meantime I am just trying to get the best light for that space. My main question is and I think we discussed this before about 16 of those strips would be too much, I plan on building a photo boost 2x2 fixture now and basically how many of those photo boost strips will I need to cover the canopy of three plants in a triangle. I am not good on the math , and knowing me I probably will figure the wrong amount. I can do regular electric work but lack in electronics knowledge. When it comes to the flow of electrons thru a diode I kinda get lost. need something to compare to, like I can figure how many amps your house service needs but I cannot figure the (700ma) for the service to your LED.
