If money was no issue I’d call California Light Works and have them build a lighting system just for the 100’x50’ building I’d be growing in somewhere in Colorado :metal:

I’m just saying in the end you will probably end up spending that kind of money to get the results that you desire. Whether its buying more lights because the ones you have arent strong enough or poor disappointing yields. Either way its lost money

@BIGE Good for you. What where you going to make?

i’m going to try using cree, vero,or citizen small cob pods. like a growmau5 set up,i’d like to intergrate some quantum boards in there.

The Quantum boards are awesome. They run so cool. I’m not having any heating problems at all. And the plants really thrive under them. I’m going to build another one but I will probably go with the QB288 board. They redesigned it run at 54.5 forward voltage. Just gives you more driver options. Good luck with the build. Tag me when you get it finished

California light works is good, not the best at really anything. There are way better lights for same money, cheaper lights with equal performance, and so on.

I find it impossible to bash on any light that will grow. But any time I see kind, California light works, black dog, or spectrum king, I’m reminded of the best lights available on amazon. I realize that this site is limited on where you can link. But that doesn’t mean you’re limited on where you can search. Please keep in mind that amazon typically takes between 10 and 30% of all sales, and companies can pay Google to have their page show up on the first page of a search. Doesn’t mean they all do, but I’m sure at least a few of those companies spend way more on advertising than r&d.

As a consumer, I personally don’t buy into this. You don’t buy a car because it has cool commercial right? The commercial may get you to the dealership, but once there you’re looking at several different things. Room, fuel efficiency, horsepower, cost, and who knows what else. The point is, you buy a car based on your needs. You should be looking at the same thing when buying a grow light. The “get what you pay for” doesn’t always apply. A small company can retool and adapt to changing technology way faster than a big one. And they’re way more willing to when they didn’t just dump $100,000 into advertising their light that’s either outdated prior to it being released, or will be in a month.

Again, all of those lights are well built and good products. But good, and the best your money can do are two entirely different things.

@BIGE if you’re interested in a quantam board build, you won’t need much help. Experienced builders are throwing them together in something like 10 minutes. That probably translates to 30 minutes for a noob, and then an hour of taking pictures, posting, and waiting for reply to verify you have it right.

I’m 100% confident that if you can put together a grow room, you can build a qb light. There’s probably a few tutorials on youtube, check it out if you’re interested.

I’m gonna be completely honest, I don’t like cfl’s at all in this situation. And I’m a huge fan of cfl grows.

Basically, I’d rather see you spend that additional money in high yielding led light intensity on top of your canopy. The bulbs are cheap, but by the time you buy enough to make a difference, fixtures, cords, splitters, and all the other bs, you’ll have a decent chunk of cash invested. Not to mention a mess in your tent or grow room. I feel the money is better invested in your main light.

Cfl’s do have their place. They are the way to go on stealth micro growing, or situations similar. If you’re new to growing and want to get started with minimal investment is another great application. Otherwise, the more productive lights aren’t really that much more expensive.
