Learning and growing with hydroponics

Hi all,

49 days into my grow now and figured I’d post my journey. I have a RDWC setup I made with a chiller and 300w Maxsisun ladder bar style light.

4 plants: 2 Afghan in the rear of the tent and 2 G13 in the front. I flipped them to flowering light schedule around 27 days in I think. They are all topped and I’ve been pruning heavily and more than I ever have before.

I use the Lucas formula, Armor SI, Hydroguard, and some Fish Shit when I have it around. Steadily ph’d to 5.8 and the water kept at 68 degrees. The tent goes from 72-78.

Let me know what you think and if you have any questions or comments!

Thanks for visiting!

These are grown from seed, so unfortunately I have different heights. I’m tempted to super crop the tall Afghan I have in the rear of the tent because I’m sure some buds will get burned by the light, but it is in pre flower and I’ve already been aggressive with late stage pruning on it. I’ve super cropped successfully well into flower before but of course would rather not. Would be curious on thoughts with that if anyone has any.

The G13 seeds are the freshest seeds and the plants I value most out of the bunch, so I’m more willing to mess with the Afghans in the rear.

Don’t know much about hydroponics but that looks like an amazing set up

Thank you! Took me a while of planning and researching but so glad I put it together. My grows are so much more effortless and easier to be consistent with it.

I’m probably not TOO far from you. Just across the throggs neck! Nice to see another east coaster.

I’m way out on the North Fork if you ever out touring the vineyards we can arrange something

Oh cool. I’ve never been out there. I tend to avoid the island like the plague…hate the traffic. Unfortunately some friends and family have moved out there and end up there occasionally and grudgingly lmao. Will def keep it in mind and same for you! Though I’m the boogie down and it’s not nearly as scenic haha

I made a judgment call this morning and who knows how it will go but here it is, documented.

I chopped off 2 overly high stems in my grow tent in an attempt to keep the canopy more even. These were not main colas but they were taller and I was thinking of I don’t act now, I’m going to have a problem for the rest of my grow. I could have supercropped them but I felt it would have led to overcrowding and the stress would end up similar.

Hated every second but curious to see how it will go!

Below is the before and after. It seems so minimal when viewing it this way but I’m sure some of you know how it feels. The stems were substantial and hearty and well into preflower. I took some video and have it in my IG but not sure that’s a shareable thing here.

Thank you! I think you helped me along with some great advice in my grows before I built this, which led me to this!

Nice setup. I would love to build something like that if I had the know how and time. I just started my first hydro run day before Christmas

Are you handy? It’s actually pretty easy. Happy to help you along with whatever I’ve learned. Shoot me aessage or questions any time

What kind of money are we looking at with materials and all with something like this

Minus the tent and light and fan?

Yeah I got the light tent and exhaust and intake fans

I don’t have the experience yet so I had to save and buy a system. It’s nice but they are made with really cheap components and I can’t afford a 30 gallons mistake in my house

Holy smokes haha. That’s fancy looking and not sure what I’m seeing even. Is that an ebb and flow? My way would definitely be way cheaper than that but I think it’s just different.

My system definitely adds up and certain components cost more or could be cheaped out on. I have 5 home Depot storage containers, 5 hubs, 2" and 3/4" fittings. Chiller($400). I would guestimate $300 not including pump and chiller. But I would really have to sit down and tally it up properly.

It’s it’s ebb and flo. It is nice, but the system does have it’s flaws the way it’s made with the float switches and etc like draining issues but I think I got it figured out with a few shims In the right places. I’m definitely interested in a rcdw culture system though. I would like to try it all one day
