Had to flush my plants last night. They are photoperiods in Ocean Forest. Had some form of deficiency causing yellow and brown in leaves. Checking the tds/ppm and ph on run off i was at 6.3 ph which seemed fine but the tds/ppm was reading 2.4 in early vegetation stage. Whats the best course of action to get my soil back where i need it after flushing? Should i amend my soil again after it dries from flush? Im figuring I depleted everything that was needed to grow with my flush. Just not sure my next steps. Thanks
Why the flush, the PH is at the bottom of the range but ok and the PPMs/EC of 2.4/1200ish are ok for soil. A tad high on the PPMs. personally I would have used the previous run off numbers to determine if a feed or water the next round. If the PH is good but the PPMs are 1400 + I would feed PH water only and test and record that for the next round. Inwould also suggest taking readings on your water source and factor that in for nutrient mixing
Lack of grow experience here nipping me in the butt. I figured the tds reading over 2.4 was bad news had some of the bottom older leaves yellow and browning. Plus several tips of leaves were brown so i possibly over reacted. So now that i flushed your saying my next watering check my ppms if under a certain threshold feed them the following time they need water? Im using earth dust so it would be a top dressing. And I use liquid cal mag im assuming ill need some of that? I just recently bought the ph pen so just really getting introduced to it and how and when to use it. Will the cal-mag throw my ppms way out of wack? Thanks
After flush photos removed several yellow leaves you can see some brown tips and some other leaves that look stressed
Gotcha, you shouldn’t flush if you’re growing organic with ED, just keep the medium damp. After seeing the pics I don’t see anything concerning?? Possibly a very minor magnesium deficiency and adding epson salt to your watering routine will take care of that
So no need to top dress with earth dust, being i flushed? Or if the run off on next watering is under a certain level on ppms add some earth dust? Also whats the best way to apply epson salt and how much? Thanks
Tagging a few organic Grow Bros to help @MeEasy @LiesGrows
I agree w/ @OGIncognito my PPM’s are a constant 1300, and ladies are loving it. But I am in Flower stage, what stage are you in @TrapPlay26?
Early to mid veg im roughly 6 weeks from seeds breaking the surface. Had some ph issues that stunted things plus cold temps so im behind in growth.
@JaneQP @MeEasy @Twelve1 @Storm any thoughts on Earth Dust after a flush?
I’m thinking yes top dress, but I never have used ED.
Feel like ive finally dialed my temps in I was all over the place mostly way to cold. This is my hour and 24 hour snapshots now
@MeEasy @LiesGrows. I just started a tub of
Sohum, earth dust and wondering if i keep covered?
Holes in cover?
How often to mix?
I also have 4 plants in living soil…
Do i water a little everyday?
Yea most definitely need to re amended after a flush with organics flushing isnt a thing most organic growers do as it will wash out alot of what was already built in the soil the microbiology id would have like to seen the state of the plants before you did any trimming from the pics above i dont realy see any issues going on also trying to read run off numbers from soild with organic amendments are going to be all over the place because due to some readily available nutrients and then there are other amendments that havent broke down yet as just aboit all organic amendments are slow release fertilizers
Yes keep covered so it holds it moisture and dosnt dry out as for water i typically water every other day i also follow the 5% rule bigest thing with organics is keeping the soil moist not soaked lol to do the 5% rule you take the what ever size put of soil your in times 5% so if in a 5 gallon pot 5 gallons of soil times 5% would comes out to .25 gallons of water wich is equal to 1quart of water i apply this to all my container sizes if im in a 3 gallon pot they get about 3 cups of water bigest thing with watering organics is consistency impo best to water on a good routine at the same time preferably if its not a option for you its not a problem hope this helps Beach
An earth dust flush huh @Graysin @TrapPlay26 . I would just reammend. Washed out a lot of the goodies. Expect a couple weeks for good biosphere rebuild. After ammending can take 2 tblspn base and mix in a gallon water. Apply immediatly. That will activate the good guys and give a boost to the restart. Just scrape in a little less than started and water with the jug that has boost. Do NOT wait long…5 minutes or so…to add the boost in water. The little critters will die superfast no soil. A flush should never be needed. The soil gets better everytime and a flush breaks the cycle.
Also the only issues i have had with ED is adding epsom to new cook. Tends to get a little low on mag to me. Calcium please foliar if need to. I have used calmag as a foliar maybe 2 times in over a year.
Definitely a rookie mistake. Thanks
So your saying do a regular amendment and also a quick feed in my watering to help try and deliver the goods quicker? Im guessing some cal-mag aswell would be recommended. Any idea how much that would effect my PH ?
