@Growdoc I need help man for real, it rained last night so I guess that helped boost smells or something cuz when I walk out to the car this morning I could smell the dank like 10 ft away from my house and when I put my nose to the siding it was strong. What do I do am I doing something wrong with this carbon filter? man I need to get rid of this smell asap before something bad happens. I’m thinking maybe if I run my portable AC again now that I have the carbon filter going in the wall and the AC is going to the Attic but maybe if I shut my central AC vents and just ran the portable AC what do you think please give me some ideas

Humidity makes the smell stay near the ground. Are you running a negative pressure setup on the filter?

You have a long run with 180° bends that I can see, so your fan is operating at half the CFM. Then the carbon filter reduces the half by another 30+%. The flex duct steals another 10-35% due to turbulence disruption from flex. It comes down to your fans operating CFMs whether there is enough power for proper filtration of space or enough negative pressure produced.

Is there a reason that the outtake line runs outta the bottom instead of the top you have open? Normally the top is for outtake and the bottom for intake of cooler air. The heat you pull from the top travels with the pipe downwards and out, but it radiates out some of that heat back down lower on the way out.

Well I’m in a room with Central AC in there and I don’t have any negative pressure

The only way to capture all the smell is negative pressure. You can’t smell my tent at all until you open the door, then it knocks you down. If I leave it open, I can smell it outside within ten minutes.

Yeah I heard that but I really didn’t think that was considered a long run. It’s probably about a 6 ft run.

Well the reason I went to the bottom was because I already had a hole in the wall from when I had my portable AC right there. I was thinking about making another hole to line it up with the top. But I figured since the hole was already there I might as well use it.

@Growdoc okay but I don’t have a tent. I wonder how hot it will get in that room if I shut my central AC vent. That should get me some negative pressure

That vent in will create positive pressure. A passive intake will work better. You will still draw in cold air but will be a little less than going out. That light has good temps and you will still sit under 84 I bet which is a fine temp to grow in. I really believe you are still in the super hot lights mentality. We got rid of those man. 100% is not necessary all the time with that big 720w. I am sprouting a full 5x5 right now under 25%.

My issue right now is too cold. All exhaust off. Circulating on for stem strength. Also consider this.
Weather turning even there. 5 months of cold. Set up for a lungroom passive intake with a strong exhaust. If that is an interior room I would vent through attic if it has either a passive or powered exhaust. Most have 1 or the other. Make sure you are through any insulation. Dont want backpressure.
All your smell issues gone. If temps are in a good average without positive a/c intake pull that from the loop. Big room. I bet it doesnt overheat. I know the light. Run cool. Perfection is grand. Close is attainable.

I need a new floor mat. That poor thing is worn out. Not as much dirt there as it looks.

@Storm yeah I’m not worried about the heat, with the central AC and lights on it runs about 82 to 84 and when the lights are off it runs about 74. So yeah if I close the central AC vent then that should help is what you’re saying?

@Growdoc @Storm do y’all think I need to just get a tent?

@Growdoc @Storm hey so I just got home and when walking up to my mailbox I took a whiff and it was intense. I know the postman has to smell that when delivering the mail. Anyway I got to get this fixed ASAP. I just shut my central AC vent but I can still feel a little air blowing through but I’m hoping with it being shut it will take care of the problem. If not I’m just going to try to turn the portable AC on and see if that will help. Maybe I need to tape the central AC vents off so no air gets in. Here is my setup. That way y’all can see the way everything is positioned, my filter and fans in central vent and AC

Shutting down AC may help with exhaust but higher temp will make them smell more too. You have got to have more filtered air going out than coming in, whatever it takes. My AC being on helps contribute to negative pressure in the room because it exhausts to the outside, but that’s carbon filtered through the barrel. Mine started putting off a lot of smell and they have 5-6 weeks to go, I may have to cut back a bit on numbers.

@Growdoc yeah well I’ve been having a portable AC off for a couple months now, it was just getting AC from the central but it looks like I’m not going over 85°, but I think I remember when I was running my portable AC it wasn’t smelling as bad and I have it exhausting in the Attic so it’s above the nose you know but I’m going to see what it does being that I close the central vent but I don’t think this is going to do it I think I’m going to have to turn the portable AC on. If I had a real grow tent would it help me?

Well I turned the portable AC back on last night and woke up to get in the car this morning and I’m not smelling anything outside

A tent would give you a sealed environment that operates at negative pressure, a definite improvement!:oncoming_fist::thinking:

You just took the words out of my mouth. @Jayjay504 you need to seal your greenspace off from the rest of the room. You will then be able to control temperature, humidity and lighting effectively. The remainder of the room will then become what is referred to as the lung room. You can still use the lung room to make broad changes in environment and the sealed greenspace to dial in the specific environment for a big harvest.
